Is working well under pressure a requirement to be successful?

Hi everyone.

I think the questions sums it all. The reason I ask is because I don't think I know how to work well in stressful conditions. And I don't know if it's a skill I should develop or what.

Appreciate your feedback!

Nope, I work great under pressure, but I have friends who are extremely successful who don't.

The key is to know how you work best! Than you can plan accordingly, for instance I work fine with quick deadlines, but some of my friends like to have a little bit more cushion, which is just fine.

Working under pressure is usually a sign of lack of planning and time management.

I was going to suggest to become anal about your preparation and planning. samkadya beat me to it.

One man alone can be pretty dumb sometimes, but for real bona fide stupidity, there ain't nothing can beat teamwork.

I feel those been a Full time IM ..will push themselves more?

because now you are full time , you have control of the time..
you can do , plan more freely ..freedom..

        so come discipline ?

perhaps some will suddenly feel a bit lazy ..depend your mood
some will feel more pressure because now don't have a job
and doing IM is your job to earn money for u and your family..thus need to earn back the usual wage you use to have when you have a job
        or best earn more ..

as IM is an amazing mystery world..which I still learning...

in fact I see look around other sites and here..we tend to talk all the same old ways ..tricks..

sometime I feel .those IM who can earn constant hundred k will not really tell their secrets?
if they tell ..ALL ...they will have competitor ..? thus their earning will be down...

I could argue either well really.

I've worked IT for some massive organizations (multi-billion $USD), and I promise that's one of the most stressful situations... On the planet.

    As far as Internet marketing?

The more leverage you have... The less pressure it is really.

If you're just starting out? Maybe there will be pressure.

Once you build a big list and can command lots of traffic?

    It really takes less pressure.

    :]

Not sure if this will be helpful to you at all, but it is what it is.

Pressure is not a sign of success. Many people in here who are earning very little to no money would feel they are under a lot of pressure.

The main thing you need is focus and determination.

I wouldn't say working well under pressure is a "requirement" to be successful.

It will help in certain situations but you don't need it to have a chance of success.

Well George RR Martin hasn't finished the last 2 of his 7 ASOIAF/ Game of Thrones books.

Does he need to? Nope, he has millions. But just imagine how fast he'd get to work if someone took all that away.

Some cause-oriented hackers recently hacked one of my websites. So I researched what they're about and then donated a large sum of money to the entity they hate the most.

The next time they hack one of my websites I'm going to donate DOUBLE.

If you are a content producer or choose to go that route, then luckily you set your own pace and work schedule. There really is no time pressure.

I definitely find it easier to work under pressure. I find I have a ton of energy when I have lots to do.

It's when the work starts to die down that I lack motivation and lose the focus to get a lot done.

I think "working under pressure" is not a requirement for success but "ability to work under pressure if situation demands" is.

Working under pressure is not required if everything moves as planned. So if you can plan well you do not have to work under pressure in general, but there are certain things that is not your control and in such situation, you have to work under pressure to be successful.

But that does not mean, people who always work under pressure are successful. That is sign that they cant plan properly. in my experience they become patient over time, either mentally or physically.

It's been mentioned already here, but a bit of planning goes a long way to eliminate stress.

Give yourself a vision, and time to accomplish it.

The ability to handle stressful situations well is great, but not necessary to become successful. It is your ability to handle situations in order to avoid stress in all aspects of your life that helps in becoming successful. Then again, success is relative.

    Hi MM,

The best lesson to learn is this; you create or release pressure. You can work stress-free no matter what happens. I work much better in a calm environment, so independent of deadlines, critics, or angry folks contacting me, I keep calm.

1 word: Meditate! lol....sit for 10 to 30 minutes daily. Meditation is truth serum; you quickly see where and how you choose to build pressure, and place it on yourself, and you also learn how to let go the ego-created burden.

    Hope this helps!

Some great ideas here and I echo most.

Working under pressure is not necessary for success, but learning how to work WELL when pressure hits and how to reverse-engineer what you did that may have contributed to the pressure will help you be successful. It's also helpful to examine your mindset to ensure you are not putting any additional pressure on yourself

There are times when you can't control what happens (host is down, server blows up!) but with some planning and scheduled times of relaxation, you can keep the pressure to a minimum.
