Diet plan or diet book?

Hello everyone

I'm an Internet marketer, fitness trainer, and certified nutritionist. I'm currently building a website where I offer weight loss tips, bodybuilding info, and nutrition counseling.

I also have created a diet plan that provides great results. I've tested it on several clients and it works great. I would like to create an eBook containing this diet plan.

What I don't know is: should I offer the diet plan only (in the form of a book) or create a full eBook offering weight loss tips + the diet plan?

I'm already offering tons of information on my website. Does it make sense to repeat the same info in the book?

I was thinking to sell the diet plan only. In this case, the book would have only 10-15 pages, so it would be easier for me to write it.

Or should I write a 60-70 page eBook that basically contains the same info as my website?

Please advise. I really want to do things right.

Why not both? You can have the diet plan which the basic outline of your dieting and weight loss tips... then the full ebook goes into detail about your principles for weight loss and why your diet plan works so well.

You can sell the diet plan for a lower cost and offer both in a bundle package for a little more.

If you're worried about writing the large ebook, then just release the diet plan for now and have the ebook in the works for a later launch.

You should definetly write weight loss tips along with the diet plan as this will become a complete package for clients, don't be afraid of time it will take to write it, you should focus on quality of the ebook. Once you spend time writting a usefull ebook you clients will be pleased and happy.

Don't make your approach too salesy! Most of the people search Google for getting some valuable fitness tips and information online so you should first gain their trust AND your website is the only way to do that.

Share your knowledge here. Show them how effective your tips and how helpful you are. Once you see that your site is getting good number of traffic on a consistent basis then you should go for selling you E-book of fitness program. I am sure you will get much better rate of conversion rather than selling it right at the moment.

If you can, add a recipe book to the mix.

Offer all of your tips in audio bites (think short - maybe two minutes per), perhaps 30 as a daily tips offering, as something to be purchased with the ebook containing the diet plan. In the ebook with the diet plan, have an appendix of articles that are published on the website organized within your in the most usable way. Add a section/chapter of motivational information to keep people on track.

Get a freelance editor/writer to consult for a small fee to ensure your structure is smooth.

You could actually use the posts you have already written as part of the book if you like.

There are so many diet books on the market, that you need to really establish yourself as an authority. To help with this you may want to publish a series. You could have the plan in one book, tips in another, exercise in another etc.

Or you could just do the short diet book and lead people to your website.

You have a lot of options.

While you can repeat some information from your website in your book, be careful that your readers don't get the impression that they wasted their money and could have gotten the same information for free on the site. If there isn't enough new information in a product your readers are paying for then you could lose their trust, and they certainly won't purchase another book from you in the future.
If you have enough new information about each subject you want to cover then you could add notes to your posts that say, "For more detailed information, check out my new eBook..." That way you get a little free advertising for yourself and you can ensure that your readers will find what they are looking for.
I agree with agmccall's post about adding recipes. If you can add any "bonus" or "special" features that will be included in your book people will love it.

If you are intimidated by writing a longer eBook you could hire someone to do the actual writing for you. Like you said, you're the fitness and nutrition expert, not necessarily a writer. You can work out details of exactly what you want with the writer you hire, and they might even have some good suggestions for book formats or other ideas that should be included based on their experience writing similar books.

    Best of luck!

In addition to what you are doing I would find a good CPA relationship and sell "magic in a bottle" weight loss solution.

Reading about how to lose weight if fine but when people really want to do it they buy product in a bottle.

There are lots of good solutions on the networks. Hit me up if you want to go direct.

I would say go with the diet plan. You can add a 7 day quick start plan and a recipe book. Maybe even a workout guide. Since you are a fitness trainer you can offer your services as an upsell.

I say the diet plan because there are a lot of diet eBooks out there but having your own diet plan to market can make you stand out from the crowd. Especially since you have people who have already been successful using it.

Thanks for your replies. I still haven't decided how to proceed. I will provide valuable information on my website to build credibility, get traffic, and establish my expertise. But I can't repeat the same information in the book.

I will explain people in the articles posted on my site why it's important to cut carbs, how this diet works, what are its pros and cons, etc. Since I provide this info on my website, should I repeat it in the book or sell the diet plan only? Or maybe I shouldn't provide any info regarding this diet on the site? I could just write about fitness and bodybuilding, and promote the book without offering too much details.

Please could someone tell me how many pages should the book have? I know it's not that important, but the diet plan alone would have 7-8 pages. If I write about the diet without offering tons of information about general nutrition, I would have 20-25 pages (including the diet plan). Is it enough?

And if I offer a workout guide, should I sell it as a different book or include it in the diet guide?

60-70 pages? The best diets can be summed up on 1 page, everything else is just talking about the same.

Why not provide diet plan "tips" and basic information in the form of a newsletter and sell your "full" plan in the form of an ebook? Use the tips as a pre sell while sprinkling links to your ebook?l You don't really know what will work until you test it! Best of luck.

hey! i happen to be a nutritionist/ certified trainer myself. ebook is a great start. I have also started charging for a 90 day meal plan and workout plans. The key is to build up a loyal audience by providing good information and then present your product. It worked very well for me.
