Domain names & ranking - is this true?

Hi,

I have a question that requires some experienced warriors. I am thinking of purchasing a few domains that are great ones, but the amount of searches per month are like 74 000.

The name in quotes gives a number of 36,900 competing sites on Google. This is a South African domain. It is one word.

So my question is, if I buy the domain will I be able to rank first because the domain is exactly the typed name?

    That depends on the strength of the other pages competing for that first slot.

    Certainly having the keyword as your domain name gives you an advantage (and I suspect it indicates that competition is not that stiff?). But having the keyword as your domain name is no guarantee.

      There is no guaranteed way to get number 1 with a matching domain name. There are so many other factors, not the least being relevance of content and popularity through links amongst other variables.

      Just do some test search phrases through the SEs, find if theres a matching domain to the phrase and where it ranks. You will soon have your answer.

        As said by others, there is no guarantee for domain name to rank first. In SEO, it will depend on various factors - like your content in relation to the domain name, IBL, anchor texts, etc. So, to get rank first will depend on how you going to build the website according to the domain name. If your website has no relation with the domain name itself, then you will not have a good ranking.

    There's no guarantee, but SEO will certainly be easier if your keywords are in your domain. For example...

    I have a client who is #2 for print shop in google.co.uk. His domain is londonprintshop.co.uk. The #1 spot is taken by printshop.co.uk. But in google.com, neither site is on page 1, and the #1 spot is taken by broderbund.com, who sell a product called Print Shop.

    My asureimage.com site is #5 in google.co.uk and #10 in google.com for lead generation. This is down to SEO work, rather than keywords in the domain.

    Domain name is very important factor to start promoting your site and get first page in google.

    Additionally you should add a few backlinks to you site with anchored keywords(your domain name) each day and your site will be on the first position in 1 month max.

    If i did it you can also and it is not problem.

    I do have 1,150,000 competing sites for my keyword.

    As you mentioned you expect 74000 of searches if this result is from Google Keyword tools you should divide it by 10 .

      Simply registering a domain with a keyword doesn't guarantee number 1 ranking. If available, yes goahead and buy it. But you need to optimize it with content, backlinks.

      Why should I divide it, and yes it is from Google Keyword Tool?
