Where can I find hi-res images of famous people for commercial use?

Hi. I need to find some images of famous people both past and present. I intend to use the images for artwork on a product. Can anyone tell me where I can find images like this that I can use commercially. I am all too aware that you cannot simply just google and image and use it freely as you can be prosecuted heavily for this.

    Not very good at all I'm afraid, most of the images are for editorial use only - not what I need.

    Type this into Google:
    "images of famous people"

    Then go into advanced settings using the button at the top right corner.
    Click on advanced search.
    Then page down to find "usage rights"
    Click on the drop down menu and select "free to use, or share even commercially"
    you can also select "free to use, share or modify even commercially" if you want to modify.
    Then click advanced search.

      They must be, unless the "free to use, share or modify even commercially" button in Google's advanced search feature doesn't work or is not accurate. It's a question of do you trust the advanced feature.

      No. Since Google does not own the rights Google cannot pass on the rights.

      These searches are "best guesses" but do not protect you legally. The is no "guarantee" that the images are okay for commercial use.

      It is your responsibility to make sure you have the rights to use any picture, not Google's.

      Hello dengkane.

      Yes, that's what I was thinking too! Someone could easily tag an image to make it seem ok for commercial use, when in reality it was not ok to use commercially.
      Bit of a tricky one this!:p

    When it comes to images of famous people, I always make sure I'm covered legally from head to toe, so to speak, and I use a stockphoto company that specialises in it. My choice is Celebrity Pictures and Celebrity Stock Photos - PRPhotos.com

    By the way, finding images of famous people with a licenses that allows them to use for commercial purposes will be very hard to find, unless you pay a lot of money. Even on the site I mentioned you can only use them for editorial purposes.

    If you are searching these images with google images, you can check the status of every image if it is available for free usage.
    else there are many sites where you can properly buy any image with usage rights.
