Starting a new online business and need suggestions

I've been around for years providing services of different kinds but I never run an online business site like ecommerce or freelance sites. My experience is limited in running blogs, forums, and moneymaking sites.

There are already a number of freelance sites with different levels of success and failures. I am planning to create a similar business but on a specific skills only. It's been a year already that I've been researching and collecting related market data and I think it's time to start the project now.

My question is, aside from preparing the budget for a custom script, what are the other things that I need to prepare.

I already have a list of things that I need to prepare but maybe some members here can add something on my list. I planned this already for more than a year and I am making sure everything is settled and well-prepared before I start.

Thank You

If you want to compete with Fiverr and Elance, you better bring your big guns.

These sites might cater to the little guy... but I promise you have they MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars in their pocket to counter everything you try to do. Plus they have amazing name recognition already.

It's better to make a VERY VERY solid niche freelance website first and take hold of the market that way.

Plus: A Bunch of Other Awards and Media Placements
    Whatever.

No, my plan is the first site of its kind and there will be no competition. It will not sell services like those found in freelance sites

I'm sorry but it is not good to reveal at the moment. It's a specific service but there is no organized site yet that offer a similar service. Some warriors will benefit as well in the future. At the moment, I can only see people who are offering/needing this service in forums.

Lol. I've just joined up with someone else with almost the EXACT same idea. Although you may think there is no competition, I'm sure you'll find that there is...a LOT.

I said there are other people who are offering this service but there is no real organized site that do this. Of course all businesses have competition but as I said, it's been a year that I am collecting data about this project.

If so is the case then besides the custom script you need a marketing budget. A wso offering your service or posting an ad on the warriors for hire section won't be a bad idea and you need to do it once every week to gain a momentum. Around $80 a month on wf and if you are going for other forums then cost will increase as per their fee

Why would you ask for suggestions if you aren't able to give enough information to get suggestions?

The subject is all about starting an online business and not a specific business.
