Safelists/Traffic exchanges programs - Are they worth the time?

Hi all

Been getting lots of email about these Traffic exchanges/Safelists programs that does the job of promoting your designated links if you reciprocate by clicking on links of their other members. This is anyway my understanding of such programs.

So my query, mainly going out to those who use these programs, is that are these programs worth spending your valuable time and money in trying to get targeted traffic to links you may be promoting (money cause all these programs have both free and paid upgrade option with paid option obviously highlighted to get better results) OR is it the case that it is not effective strategy to deploy.

Even though I have not yet tried these programs for couple of websites I wish to start promoting, my hunch is that everybody ends up promoting their biz opps with the result that you get distracted in doing your job which is to promote your own site.

Also if you could list any such programs that you have used and gotten good results from - No affiliate links plz.

Thanks in advance and look forward to feedback.

These traffic exchanges and safelists have been around for a long time.

I tested it many years ago and it did not work for me.

It might work for you though.

The one factor that determines whether it works for you or not: the value of your time.
If you are willing to work for about $0.20 per hour you might find it very good.

You would have to wade through tons of crap messages and write to thousands of email addresses that are not monitored by a human being.

Out of 1,000 accounts you might find 1 or 2 where the email actually is being read by a real person. Then let's say that 10% respond to what you have to offer. That means you have send a reply to 10,000 emails.

Sounds like a waste of time to me. But maybe it's worth your time.

I think yes, they are worth your time, depending upon if you have any money to invest.

If you're totally broke and do NOT want to invest in traffic period? I say give it a try.

(A lot of people will send me spiteful remarks and call me newb for saying YES, but whatever).

    Here's the thing though.

All marketing is about knowing your demographic better than they know themselves.

People are CLICKING links all day because they're dirt broke.

So the question is; can you provide to them something better in exchange for their email address?

    :]

    Food for thought.

    In my experience....

Its great for building your list and getting to build a

    relationship other marketers.

What it's NOT great for: direct sales.

Also the owners of these sites are building quite a list.

I think it depends on your purpose. Personally I don't want to spend my time anymore on these tasks. I did when I irate started out. It helped me to become more organized with my time and getting used to sending emails regularly. I think they can help you build up a brand but not much help with sales or list building.
