Are there any jobs in online marketing?

Is it possible to find work in online marketing?

I've seen a few in some job sites, but not very many. Most position I've seen are generally Managerial positions. I ask this because I think having real work experience in IM will look good on your CV/Resume including the benefits of references from employers.

I also looked for college and university courses in IM, but haven't found any. I''ve seen job sectors in Marketing and advertising but hardly IM.

I get spammed by a couple of recruitment agencies that list jobs in online marketing, SEO, lead generation and direct marketing.

These are all UK jobs. I guess it depends where you live, and what the economy is like at the moment.

If you can't find college courses on IM, try direct marketing. This sure to include Internet Marketing.

I hire people where I live to work for my company. So there are jobs out there but hard to find.

Yes there are but my suggestion would be that you need to spread the net. I would also try digitalPointForums and sitepoint.com. These also offer some excellent opportunities. Also try UK specific sites like Jobsite.co.uk and monster.com and especially jobserve.com. Jobserve.com is the market leader in IT specific jobs.

Any business that promotes themselves online does online marketing. If you're working with them in that capacity (performing their SEO, pay per click, writing website copy, etc.), that would qualify as online marketing experience.

  • Obviously there are jobs in Online Marketing. What major corporation doesn't have an online presence? Corporations want to hire people with College Backgrounds. There are not a lot of "Online Marketing" degree programs... if any. But there are courses that are included as part of Information Management, Marketing, Graphics Design, etc. degrees. Companies want to hire people who are educated. If you have a proven track record/portfolio you may have an "in". But in the corporate world it's that piece of paper that often opens the door to opportunity.
