z instead of s in a domain? Looks bad?

I just wonder what domain i should buy.

Its either tshirtz.co.uk or something like thirtsonline.co.uk.

What would you go for? Does the letter z in a domain look spammy / not serious?
This is a long term business so I really need to have the best domain available.

"thirts" is just as an example.

    If it's a brand you're going for, sure, tshirtz with a "z" is fine, imo.

    I personally don't like the "z" idea. I like real names in domains, but that is just my opinion.

    Other companies have successfully used "z" and other changes in the name and it has worked very successfully.

    It is simply a matter of finding what you feel the most comfortable with.

      It all depends on how much "Direct" traffic (people that type the url in browser) you are counting on.

      If you are going for paid advertising, seo, and other traffic methods where most people will be clicking a link then it really does not matter that much

    fiverr.com seemed really weird, until someone made it work.

    If your ideal domain is unavailable (which, of course, most are) then there is usually nothing wrong with considering substitutions like "z" for "s"

    Here are a couple of questions to ask...

    1) Who is your target market? "tshirtz" would probably be just fine to the natural customer for tshirts, where "funeralz" might not be not be so fine. The level to which you can take liberties with words has a direct relationship to the seriousness of the topic.

    2) How abstract are you planning to get? There is a quick point of diminishing returns on deviating from the common spelling of a word. If you are looking at, say, "lazerprinterz" then you might be better off considering "onlinelaserprinters" instead. Mostly, this is a gutcheck.

    Essentially, this is a conversation about the value of brandables vs. exact match domains. There are lots of good discussions here that go in depth on the topic.

    I think putting z's in things looks better to younger people but can also be a good thing for a brand that you plan to really push.

    You can go with either one because they are both fine, ultimately the decision is up to you.

    "Weird" names ARE brandable. Imagine a world without the big G, would you buy something called google.com? It's weird right? But they did establish a smallish business around it right?

    I wouldn't go for z unless it is already a branded name.
    Imagine you have a site tshirtz.co.uk, its very easy for people to mistake z with s and next time they might visit tshirts.co.uk.... you will be unintentionally sending your traffic to your competitors sites......
    if S in not available, the domain is already probably on the web and then it is probably one of your competitors...... so better to avoid such names for the sake of not confusing your visitors and not sending your visitors to your competitors sites..

    The z signals that it is something more hacker related. For t-shirts it can be fine, for cars it would be not that fitting.

    tshirts is a better option for seo perspective but if it's not available then tshirtz.co.uk looks great and legit, the simple name gets benefit mostly.
