Can you please my site and let me know if there is money making and interest potential in it.

So I've been working on my site for over a year now. It hasn't really been bringing me a lot of money (aside from a few eBook sales every once in a while). I just recently started promoting affiliate links as opposed to putting Adsense ads on there.

I'm not sure if my site is the most profitable nice. I have a good domain name, but I'm not sure if I'm using it the best that I can. I designed and coded everything myself.

Thoughts?

Musician Lifestyle – The 9 to 5 Alternative

Thanks!

What kind of conversion rate are you getting on that page?
    Signature

1,574,810 unique visitors and counting. And that's just one of my websites.

On which page? And what do you mean by conversion rates?

It's a blog with many pages that is monetized with various affiliate links (of products that I do use and recommend) and a couple of eBooks that I wrote.

I'm getting about 20 visitors per day according to google analytics, and I make practically no money. I'm not sure how much I'd be making if I had 10,000 monthly visitors...but I'm not even close to that so I really can't say.

Do you know what the bounce rate is for your site? Looking at Google Analytics, how long do visitors stay on your site?

Okay, you've got no benefit-oriented headline. You've got a massive header graphic that takes up a third of my monitor. That's a lot of wasted space. All your text is centered. Very amateurish. Get it left justified. You need the optin box on the front page, above the fold.

What's the benefit to the 9 to 5 alternative? Whatever it is, distill it down to a clever, benefit-oriented headline and stick that up top. Right below it, put your optin box with a handful of bullet points that will make your visitors drool with envy and that they'd sell their souls to get a copy.

On the other side of the coin, the site does have a "musician friendly" feel to it. You aren't far, just a few tweaks away from optimizing it. Good luck.

I totally agree with travlinguy on all the points he made. I would action those points first and then ask people to look again to see what the next steps would be.

I don't understand your approach. You need to either sell your own product, do AdSense only, or sell affiliate products only.

Also, I don't understand your target market. Is it musicians? Is it someone else? If I am confused, I am sure others visiting your page are, too.

If you make money playing the guitar, then I'd probably focus more about specifically how to go about doing that (getting more gigs or whatever the case may be) instead of a generic make-money course.

You need to check your Anaylitics first before all else. You've had this blog going for a year. What pages are your viewers - the traffic coming in - most interested in?

Like dewayneboyd said, you are all over the place with topic coverage on this blog. You want to make the front page like what travelinguy laid out, but you need to see what kind of traffic you are already generating and what the traffic to your site is most interested in - or do most people leave your site soon after showing up (time on site), do they look at any of the other pages than your front page before exiting (bounce rate), do visitors come in directly to your front page or are they coming in from search results or a backlink to one of the inner pages most often? Which inner pages? What pages are they spending the most time reading? Where are they going when they leave your site? Age, gender, etc...

Take a look at the traffic you're getting, change the format and include what travelinguy said, but for that traffic. Test and keep testing. If that traffic doesn't convert, then you'll need to change your focus, but it doesn't do any good for seo these days to have articles about music, make money online, and kung fu...lol...all in one site, unless you just don't care about Google search traffic. Focus on one niche - preferably the one that will make you money.

      As for monitization strategy:

      - I recommend the products that I use personally that can be found on my website (I made the actual website with Wordpress and Thesis, I make my eBook covers with MyeCoverMaker, and I have my preferred music courses and products.)

      - I have 3 of my eBooks for sale (they pretty good ones too)

      - After I get a lot of traffic, I then may do adsense, but for now I don't want to scare people away with my site looking too "salesy".

Many people tell me that I'm a good writer, and I know a lot of people are interested in what I write about.

However, how to market all of this stuff? How to use my own skills to my advantage in order to make money online?

That's where I need your help!

I just checked analytics, and on the front page, it had the website data:

        Visits: 491

        Avg. Visit Duration: 6:04

        Bounce Rate: 62.53%

        Goal Conversion Rate: 0.00%

Looking deeper, my traffic is mostly clicking on the front page, but that's actually only 11.2% of the total page views. People appear to be browsing all over my site (which is what I want them to do). Here is the data:

        Page Pageviews % Pageviews
        1.
        /
        227 11.02%

        2.

As far as where the traffic is coming from:

        84% from Google
and the remainder from wherever I've been spreading my links (forums and FB).

Thanks for the suggestions everybody, I guess you guys don't "see it" the way I do (as far as the overall point of the site goes). I guess that is a good indicator that I should listen to though, because you guys represent the "average browser".

    The purpose of the site:

    - I quit my job in 2012 as an engineer to pursue that which I was passionate about, which is music. I now play live music and spend my days studying music theory, creating music theory videos and applying the theory to guitar, and self-teaching myself the piano.

    - In order to live this lifestyle of mine, and still afford to pay my mortgage and all of my other bills, I had to figure out some ways to earn some additional income on the side during my newly found free time (which used to be spent working). In my newly found free time, I do things such as sell things on eBay and various freelance jobs. I also earn a passive income through renting rooms out to my roommates. That was my plan to handle the "income" issue regarding "pursing my dream" (the purpose of the site).

    - I include free guitar/music theory lessons and discussion

    - I chart my progress on the piano as well

    - I also include an inspirational stories section about other ARTISTS that have also created lives for themselves based on their own passions. I include travellers, tattoo artists, and my friend who is a black belt in the art of his choice, Jiu-Jitsu (not Kung Fu).

The site is about HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO CREATE YOUR OWN PERSONAL DREAM LIFE AND PURSUE WHAT IT IS THAT YOU ARE TRULY PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I guess you could call my niche "lifestyle design".

My sub-niche would therefore be "artists and musicians of all types".

Now, I understand where the confusion may be coming from, and how this overall topic or theme may not be completely clear.

So, I will consider changing something around so there is an obvious advantage above the fold (if anyone has any ideas, that would be awesome).

I'd also love to hear anyone's ideas or suggestions as to how I would better present my THEME in a much more understandable manner so people aren't coming to my site wondering WTF is this guy trying to say?

Or perhaps I may want to utilize my domain name (which I think I got really lucky in getting) in a much more effective way?

I've been working on this for 1.5 years now. However, I'm not married to my "plan" if it's not lucrative. I have no problems completely dropping everything and starting from scratch.

    Thanks!

The text on your site says "Welcome to the musicians life style." and then you go on to say hey, its not really for musicians only. I get what you are saying, but its a what I call floating concept.

      you then write here:
HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO CREATE YOUR OWN PERSONAL DREAM LIFE AND PURSUE WHAT IT IS THAT YOU ARE TRULY PASSIONATE ABOUT.

you can then chop this a bit, "How to Create your own Dream Life" " or "The Pursuit of Passion" you get the idea.

      so now we have:
How to Create your own Dream Life.
I quit my job in 2012 as an engineer to pursue that which I was passionate about, which is music. I now play live music and spend my days studying music theory, creating music theory videos and applying the theory to guitar, and self-teaching myself the piano.

      Then we add in...

My dream life is obviously music. I am sure yours is different than mine. Regardless of the path, the end result can be the same. The pursuit of your dreams, on your own terms can be obtained! I did it, so can you! I am offering this here FREE 85 page e-book. Get started on that path to YOUR Dream life. SIGN UP NOW

Include more of your story, sell the free part again, more story to the end pitch your book again.

I would then try and sell with an e-mail pitch How to make a living from doing what you love for $15. then write more and sell more. there is your monitization

I see what you are saying. This is very cool. Thanks!

See, I initially was looking at this from the perspective of making a REALLY COOL website, with LOTS OF COOL FREE CONTENT. My intent is to make a website which people will stumble on and end up browsing around for hours because there's just so much free stuff to check out.

Interspersed within all of the free content are highlighted links to various affiliate products and my own eBooks.

This is the model that Steve Pavlina used in his website, who was the one that initially turned me on to the concept of IM in the first place.

I figured that it wasn't a terrible marketing strategy since it has worked before.

        Anyway, thanks for the tips.

    Thanks guys...

So does this seem like a profitable "niche"? Or "sub niche"?

Or should I consider switching to something else?

Again, I'm basing my marketing model off exactly how Steve Pavlina does it.

So you're saying that because I have guitar lessons, piano videos, and many ideas as to how the average musician or artist can do what they love for a living, it's confusing as to what the actual "point" of my site is?

I need to be more clear as to "what I'm teaching you"...
