Best program for first website creation?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering what program/website that every one used for creating everything to have your own website! This is my first website and I was also wondering what sites to use to create it and host! Wether they are free or paid! What did every one find the easiest and most efficient?!

P.S. Irrelevant to original post but could some one describe the difference in web hosting and actually having my own domain?

Thanks in advance every one! Much appreciated!

-Joe

I used to use Website Tonight by Godaddy. User friendly and very functional. Homestead had awesome templates but cost more.

If this is your first website I would be careful to choose a website builder and not website templates. Templates usually require knowledge of CSS and HTML while a site builder is user friendly.

Wordpress also has some great templates and is what many internet marketers use now to create mini sites.

A domain can be compared to a phone number while hosting is your phone service. Most if not all hosting plans come with either a site builder or website templates. Godaddy combines all three.

    Hope this helps.

On the other hand, if you don't have design skills, you might want to use a template instead of a web site builder. Website builders are easy to use, but without design skills, they allow a person to create some horrendous stuff.

    You could use:

    1) Dreamweaver

    2) Yahoo Sitebuilder

    3) Wordpress

    4) Optimize Press

    5) A free HTML editor program

I prefer to use Wordpress to build my sites. If you want free hosting, then you can just go to wordpress.com and build one there.

Master Revan explained the domain name and hosting pretty well. If you have a domain name, it has to be hosted somewhere or it is not online.

Alright cool I am in the right direction then, I currently have free webhosting but it is very limitted and free domain and am creating useing wordpress. Do you think it is worth a GoDaddy subscription as "more bang for your buck" type? I have read mixed reviews about godaddy and considering I am relitivily new to IM I am trying to establish some income without spending money on subscriptions and such!

    WordPress is your best bet.

I've been building websites since middleschool, and once I learned WordPress I never considered anything else.

I say "learned", but really the learning curve for WordPress is actually quite small.

I'll manually create something if I'm making it really light (squeeze page, sales page, thank you page) but everything else is via WordPress.

It's much easier, lighter, and has an impressive array of plugins.

Why waste time with anything else?

Judging by your questions you're not very experienced webmaster and then I won't advise you to use software created specifically for web developer (WP, Joomla, Magento, etc.). If there are not much knowledge and experience then it's better to pay attention to ready-made solution - any modern website builder would suit you best and at the same time it will be free for you.

Wordpress is the easiest way to build a site as there are lots of free themes (templates) available and you can easily modify them from within WordPress itself. You can also build your own theme online using Lubith Wordpress Theme Generator, Editor, Template Creator - Lubith.com (not an affiliate link).

I recommend you start with a domain/hosting combo deal from GoDaddy and then use their 1-click install of WordPress. This will get you started on the right path to learning web development.

Second, you need to chose a theme for wordpress, you can search for free themes on Google or go to a site like themeforest or woothemes to purchase a premium one.

If you're interested in learning HTML/CSS and really becoming a web developer, you will need a HTML editor like SublimeText or CoffeeCup Editor (Dreamweaver will only hold you back). You can get every HTML tutorial you could dream of on Google - some books at barnes and nobles can teach you in 24-48 hours if you are truly on a mission.

Good luck - keep at it for 3-6 months and you'll be an expert!
