Am I an idiot for considering this? (Fiverr idea)

I have some Fiverr gigs that I want to boost the sales on long-term. I'm thinking of doing article marketing and linking directly to the gig.

Anyone tried this?

Or am I just wasting my time, with Fiverr killing conversions by requiring a signup before people buy?

Why would that make you an idiot? Promoting your business is what you're supposed to do. If someone wants to buy your gig they will sign up.

      a) Because it's lots of work, or better yet...

      b) Because I figured phrasing it like that would make for a more dramatic title...

I think if you're going to spend time doing article marketing and link building, you should open up your own page and direct your traffic to there.

Then if something happens to your Fiverr account (not saying it WILL but IF), then all that time and money spent isn't for nothing.

Plus, you could charge higher prices OFF Fiverr by utilizing your testimonies ON Fiverr.

There you go, great answer. You won't be limited by Fiverr. Build and Promote your own site.

Open up your own website advertising services.

I did that = $200 order on the very first day.

Put that into some sort of context for us all please. As a solitary comment it has no value but with details I'm sure we'd all like to know how you did that.

With what promotion? What traffic source? How much did it cost you to get that many sales on the first day of a website's existence?

I would avoid article marketing that would take a lot of time, instead i have seen that if you can make couple of videos and upload them to Youtube and Dailymotion promoting your fiverr gigs you can get far better results
This is what worked for me in start when i was promoting my gigs

I think the problem with Fiverr is the same that the advertising businesses have with sites such as Groupon. People are there to spend what it says on the coupon, and are not going to order anything more expensive.

If you can make sales and profit on that $5 and your upsells, why not.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

If you are going to promote your gigs outside of Fiverr, use strateges that don't take much time and don't invest any money in it! What seems to work is promoting your gigs with video and forums signatures...
But first I'd focus on optimizing your gig - title, description, video and maybe offering express delivery so people choose you over others!
And remember that 100% Positive Feedback is GOLD!
    Good luck

Why don't open up your own site and sell your service there? You can charge more if you do this..

I wouldn't recommend putting all that work into Fiverr. The sales on there will net you under $4. Use your own domain.

I agree with what is being said about Fiverr. Not only is it limiting your earnings, but having a business based on gigs being sold to people looking for the cheapest deal is not the kind of reputation a serious business owner typically wants to have.

I'm not saying people at Fiverr can't make a living focusing on that . . . what I believe, though, is that if your income is based on Fiverr sales, you will not be taken very seriously by folks that have money to spend on services that are more in line with professional rates.

Whenever you're competing on price alone, you're going to lose. There will always be someone that will work for less. It's not what you want your business to be know for.

      Good luck to you,

      Steve

You should try as many different ways to drive legitimate traffic to your fiverr gig. If you are offering article writing services, using article marketing is a great way to showcase your talent. In effect, the quality of the article it self acts as a form of advertising for your service.

    Not stupid. Clever!

    But . . .

As someone said: direct your efforts to your own page (preferably an email list). What happens if Fiverr delete your gigs? BLAMMO: work down the drain.

As well as articles, though, consider all kinds of places to get targeted traffic.

If I were going to make such an effort at promoting anything, it would have to have more than a $5 - fees payday.

The question is whether or not articles still work today. Some say they do, but you really have to write a good article that will build viral links naturally for it to be affective. I don't think a spam type of thing would work anymore. Not suggesting that's what you had in mind, either. Good luck with it, let us know of the results.

I agree with the folks who say send the traffic to your own site. Seems like a lot of work to send people to a low cost gig. But you are "thinking like a marketer" and that's a good thing.

Optimize your gig within fiverr and perhaps make a few quickie youtube videos to promote it. I'd think that's probably easier and more effective than articles.

Article promotion is a good idea, definitely does not make you an idiot. A even better idea would be to make a few videos and upload them of youtube. Keep the titles as close to the fiverr gig as possible, that way you will get more targeted traffic, plus higher chances of ranking on Google as well for related keywords.

    Basically the idea is good.

I would not write articles but write press releases instead and submit to good press release sites. There is one that is perfect for this.

Listen, if you're making money on Fiverr now, keep doing it and work your own article writing site in on it. Do what you have to do to make money then add to it.
