Catching the trend in Internet Marketing

I get to know that the way to do marketing successfully changes all the time on the Internet. May I know how do I keep in touch with the latest ways of doing marketing that works now and not one year ago?

Thanks.

Regularly visit this forum and look at popular posts. Look for things such as tiered link building, on page SEO, private blog networks and other creative ways for backlinks.

    Google it?

From time to time, I do a Google search for something like "IM trends 2014".

I just posted this in a different thread. Here is a great article I ran across yesterday: Fearless Forecast: 7 Best SEO Techniques for 2014

Trends in marketing are great, but you can't forget that you must judge each method in terms of whether it is the way to reach your market or not.

For example, if your market are middle-age females trying to lose weight you most likely won't hit Snapchat quite yet, but may focus your effort on Youtube, syndicated content on sites focused on that demographic.

What so many people miss is that fundamentally your objective is to get the attention of and engage with your target market - ask yourself "will this tool or platform help me reach or engage with my market?" If the answer is yes, then dive in.

Don't try to spend all of your time chasing trends. You'll never catch up. Most of the IM/MMO marketplace depends on you never catching up, but still trying.

Break things down into strategies and tactics. For example, one strategy is word of mouth - getting people to recommend you to their friends. One tactic is using social media. The strategy doesn't change, but the tactics do. A few years ago, MySpace was the place to be. Right now, it's Facebook. A few years from now, I can almost guarantee it will be something else.

You don't change strategies based on trends. You may decide to change tactics. When considering that trendy new shiny object, consider this wise advice:

I would only add that if the answer is no, keep your toes on dry land.

    Eerrr no?

The way to make money online does not necessarily change every year. I still market the way I did back in 2007:

    Targetted traffic * front-end conversions * back-end monetization

Six years later, nothing has changed: it is still the way to go.

If you don't want to be left behind, I would suggest learning to be successful in list building no matter what business you're in. It will not be outdated and it has been here for the past decade. You will not be left behind if your business does not depend on Google.

Right now, I'm doing a business which has been done by many successful people in the past. Create a simple squeeze page, sales letter, write effective emails and gather list as much as possible.
