Host VSL on youtube or Amazon S3?

Is there any reason to host your VSL on Amazon S3 instead of youtube?

I'm thinking that:

a.) Youtube is free
b.) Youtube is faster

Why host it on Amazon S3?

The biggest problem with hosting your VSL on youtube is that pretty much anyone can "flag" or report your youtube video for one violation of TOS or another. At which point youtube will take down your video or worse yet they'll remove your account entirely.

Never underestimate what your competitors and/or someone who just decides to be a jerk can do. Youtube will not contact you or talk to you about it, they'll just take it down. I've known quite a few people who've had this happen and they weren't violating any TOS.

If you don't want to go through the headache of setting up S3 you can alternatively host a video from dropbox (free account) and from google drive (also free). I've done both and they work quite well. If you're planning on sending hundreds of thousands of views that may not work well, but for most of us it'll work just fine.

For the same reason you want to host your Wordpress blog in your own domain/server instead of using a free Blogger account.

You can better conceal the source of your video if you're hosted on Amazon S3.

It's possible to hide the source on YouTube, but it would be a terms of service violation.

The more I look into it, the more I fear YouTube. (I hate the notion of them taking down content, and I seem to attract negativity in that regard).

That's why I NEVER rely upon others to "control" or "house" my content.

If I'm going to create something? I want exclusive legal rights to it.

I'll never grant some company the ability to "take down my content" because of some arbitrary "terms of service" violation.

My advice? Make it a priority to have 100% control over your content at all times.

    Bah humbug.

Just my $.02 as a paranoid dude.

I agree with Sarevok and would add the security factor. Anything that you upload to YouTube you should expect that it will get ripped off. If you understand that and are alright with it just make sure to watermark your videos before you upload them. It makes them harder for someone else to use if they do want to rip it off and use it for there projects.

    Just saying.

The biggest problem with hosting it on Youtube is that you leak traffic from your salespage back to Youtube.
