Aren't you guys worried about this...

Hey guys,

over the last day or so I've seen a number of threads
started about this new google chrome browser...

Now that is all well and good but, here's the thing it
just seems to me that we're not to far away from
all the info we will get is only googles point of view!!!

Just imagine every single piece of info coming from one
fix point google.

To me that is disturbing as hell, what you guys think?

    I agree. Businesses worry about the power of Wal-Mart, which has about 9% of the retail sales market in the US. Well, Google controls 62% of the search market (and rising), and now has an Internet browser.

      yeah, I started feeling that way a while ago. I actually unistalled everything google related fom my pc's last year, as well as every toolbar and most bho's.

        Many of us are using Microsoft email clients, browsers, keyboards, and operating systems. I don't see Google monopolizing us with a browser.

        You're right, but it is getting close to it! Are we REALLY so different? In 1948 they came SO close! It is not so overt, and we don't have screens on every floor, and there isn't 100% saturation, etc... but MAN was he close.

        Hey David,

        I guess my knee-jerk reaction is that I don't want to be dominated
        by anyone and i don't only want one person or organisation's
        point of view....

        But when I think about it we have pretty much been dominated
        by Microsoft for decades haven't we.....

        So with all the changes afoot...I don't think that it's something
        that should be feared ....... just yet...

          Now, think of how many other people are either too impatient or ignorant to understand that there can be true gems of unbiased, intelligent information buried in the back of Google - because not all webmasters know how to practice diligent SEO or have an interest in SEO. So their information isn't even being seen.

          Then, consider how many of us are out there "gaming" the search engines. Doing everything we can to grab the first page of Google with low quality Squidoo lenses, Blogger blogs, Hubpages, and articles we wrote for ezinarticles in about five minutes (yeah, those have great, objective journalistic quality! And think how many people are shaping their entire beliefs about something based on those first page results.

          It's actually kind of scary - how people's perceptions are being shaped by so many commercial interests and yet many folks view the first page of Google as being like an encyclopedia - which is isn't!

          Thats an excellent point Jennifer.

          Kind of reminds me of an older man I know who thinks that when he gets spam that he is engaging in a conversation with someone out there. He will send back messages talking to them and whatnot.

          Sometimes we forget how people out there who aren't versed in this stuff take it all.

          OBVIOUSLY, the sites are NOT the most authoritative, or even RELEVANT! They used to be driven by weightings, and now are driven by popularity. Besides, what IDIOT would think that only 10 sites are good!?!?!? Obviously, they want to cut down bandwidth usage, and wait time.

            Millions of them - well maybe not, but almost everybody I know including their friends believe the sites on the first page of Google are the best search engine results and searching any further is a waste of time... If any junk results show up on the first page they say "Coly why don't you build a website on XYZ, there's nothing on Google?"

            In this group we're talking directors, managers, doctors, engineers, students etc.

              And its not about Google the Companies Ethics or lack there of,

              its about the information they store. Even if they want to protect this information for the good of man or whatever. The governments have the ability to access this information.. They can and Have already.

              This is whats really terrifying.

              Personally I'd trust Google more than "all" the future Presidents with their own agendas. I say "all" because once the data is stored, its going to be there for a very long time.

          How do you know that your existing browser is NOT doing it right now? At least with Chrome the soure code is open source and anyone wanting to do so can see how it works "under the Chrome". I don't think google's trying to monopolise the browser market because if they were then they wouldn't have gone open source. What they ARE trying to do is give every other vendor a kick in the butt so that they get their stuff up to date and faster etc to enrich the user's experience of the internet. Google's hoping to offer more "web" apps in the future and having faster, leaner, richer browsers will bring the world that much closer to their goal. It's the same with any open source product out there. You don't want to make money with that product but rather build products/services around that so that the more people using the open source product the more customers feeding into your funnel

          Will be interesting to see what happens...

    I think just like everything else in life there comes a company or brand that people later down the road consider to be a main source. Then there is something or someone that eventually breaks that cycle.

    We might be entering these phases with google as being the dominate search engine but if your catching information that has the source coming from google and not researching somewhere else afterwards then of course that will make you nervous.

    Always check around you see that information from other sources are everywhere.
