Hello there, I am helping some friends that have opened a local recruitment agency in building their website. They want to put an form that people who are interested for job announcement subscribe their email address and get once a month a newsletter. Aweber or getresponse does this. Is there any way to do it free? They can't afford to pay $20 per month because they are in the start up process. It is a very small company. Any advice would be greatly appreciated... Thnx |

Aweber and getresponse are not free.. There's a lot of free services there like freeautobot but if you want to host your own list try to use phplist.

If you use Wordpress to build your site, there is a free autoresponder plugin available. I personally have not tested it yet, but I've had it bookmarked with plans to test it for quite some time. The website is Download the FREE Autoresponder Plugin for Wordpress.. It might be worth a try. My only word of caution with using this or any other free autoresponder script or service is that you may have some more liability with can-spam laws (don't know about this for sure, but it's worth checking into) and you may not have the delivery success rate because aweber and getresponse work closely with major email providers to ensure their mails get through. My hunch is email through these free providers end up in spam folders a lot more often. |

I don't know which Autoresponse beside Aweber, but there's Collective Email Sender Software which can do the same purpose. download it free at this website majorshare.com/software-projects/easy-mail-sender.asp

I believe that getresponse has a free "starter" package, that they could use until it is earning $20/mo

The best free email program is PHPlist, It may take a little bit to implement and learn how to use it, however that is the trade off for a free program. I have successfully been using it since I started in IM, and recommend it to my clients. There are also a lot of manuals, forums and info on different things you can do with the program, just do a search on Google for PHPlist. Best of Luck! Jon |

Don't mean to sound negative but if they can't afford $20 a month I can't see how they're going to start a recruitment agency...these guys spend a gazillion pounds on advetising every year.

I agree. Though I understand that anyone just starting out wants to be cautious (I've been there) and try and get everything one on the cheap I don't think you are taking your busines seriously. There are plenty of free tools but as a general rule paid for products are best, and they don't have to be expensive either. These are the tools of your trade. Don't see them as expenses, more like investments. |

Great tips guys. Its a very small local company operating outside of USA. Probably PHPlist will fit at present to their needs and when they make a list of 1000 user it is wise to switch to aweber or another service... |

If they can't afford $20/month, something is wrong. Seriously. They could each give up a couple of trips to their favorite coffee house and they've got the money to pay for it. Or brown-bag their lunch a couple of times a month and they've got it. How important is for these guys to get the business off the ground the RIGHT way? There are some things that just can't be sacrificed when you're building a business. Remember the saying, "You get what you pay for"? That holds true with something as important as building your list. Have they thought about the impression it will make when their clients get that ezine created with a free service, including the ads that could be placed in there? This is similar to the folks who try to set up a business web site using the free space their ISP gave them. If money is that tight, take a look and see what can be changed. It's an investment in the growth of the business. Those trips to Starbucks won't bring any future income, but the money you would have spent there could. P.S. If they start the list out now with a freebie service and plan to migrate to another service when they hit 1,000 members, they're just asking for trouble at that point. They need to make it as easy as possible for their list members to get on the list and stay on the list. If you try to make them jump through hoops later (double opt-in all over again), you'll lose many of them. |
