Starting a forum what would you do???

Okay so I am starting a forum in the new year I already have a successful blog on the site myurl/blog on the main myurl/ I just have this silly buy and sell section which I am looking to get rid of or migrate somewhere else.

Anyways long story short I am debating weather to put the forum on myurl/forum or on the main url and then have a link to the blog(which is wordpress by the way).

Furthermore I am still in debate if I should go with Xenforo or invasion power board. I have considered Vbulletin but have heard bad things about the latest update. I am open to any ideas/suggestions.

In relation to the niche I am very passionate about it and will have no problem putting the hours in just want to set it up right from the beginning!

Thanks!

I will say this. Search engines love the content that forums generate. So it could vastly improve your SE rankings by including one on your main site. You want to make sure registration is strong, spammers love using forums to their advantage with bad intentions. Also, make it clear what you want to be discussed on the forum. (Sub topics, sub forums, etc). As far as which extension or program to implement, I have no idea.

Yes, I guess its due to the volume of content that forums produce that search engines love. Thanks

You don't have to download the latest version of vbulletin if you don't like it, you can download version 4.2 or even 3.8 in the member area.

Or avoid all of the hassle and use Xenforo...

In case you want to save the main page for potentially something else in the future, a 301 redirect to /forum is another option to consider.

I wouldn't consider vBulletin either. Their time has come and gone.
