MailChimp & Abuse Complaints

Has anybody using MailChimp dealt with these before? Basically they occur when someone marks your messages as SPAM from within their e-mail program. I was wondering does anybody know what number or threshold of "Abuse Complaints" is unacceptable? I sent about eight e-mails to a small (800 people) list and got around 5 of them total. I was wondering would that affect my messages hitting inbox for future reference or if MailChimp issued any kind of penalty for getting them? Thanks in advance.

More than likely you keep that up you won't be email marketing much longer with Mailchimp.

They are notorious for not being friendly to affiliate marketing or any marketing for that matter if it involves you actually selling something one way or the other.

Using MailChimp .. that was your first mistake.

Although what they offer is enticing, especially their free for life service but the features are limited to the extent that makes it almost pointless.

It's worth paying a bit more for Get Response or Aweber.

Like Jason says, they don't like affiliates.

I used MailChimp at a Fortune 500 company for some quick customer feedback with a legitimate email list and they were a pain in the ass.

I see ... I'm not an affiliate marketer though, I deliver my own products.

and What's the deliverability like with GetResponse? I was getting 98%-100% consistently with MailChimp

I was debating on doing the paid monthly subscription with MailChimp (10k subscribers) but not if my account would be suspended. I haven't had any notices yet, just asking for future reference.

You might take a look at TrafficWave, it's owned by a warrior and seems competitive.

Ive been using Aweber since 2005 and recently started using GetResponse and I like GetResponse better.

Deliverability is the same, if not better, than MailChimp

What about Importing Lists? are they usually strict on that? I have a 10k list that I want to just be able to upload without issues (like on Mail Chimp).

Just a little worried about abuse complaints, but i haven't read much about GetResponse shutting people down over complaints like that.

Mailchimp versus Aweber/Get Response are used for (IMO) two different markets. I use Aweber for my affiliate marketing and courses but I use Mailchimp for my e-commerce stores and local businesses.

Aweber and GetResponse are much friendlier to the IM crowd and give you a different set of tools. That being said, they only allow (for the most part) opt-in subscribers.

Mailchimp integrates with practically every shopping cart on the market so they work great for e-commerce (customer is added when they purchase or opt-in on site).

Mailchimp works great with local customers because you can actually import customer lists if you do things like the fishbowl and give aways. That being said, just importing a list will always have a larger amount of complaints then an opt-in list. The key here for your imported list, don't email them more than twice a month.

Mailchimp is light years ahead of Constant Contact in functionality and I have yet to use iContact yet but from what I can see is in between CC and Mailchimp in functionality.

Agreed, MailChimp isn't really IM-friendly. MailChimp turns a lot of people off due to not supporting Affiliate Marketing. Only reasons I went with them were because of the free limit and me producing my own products. My business isn't based on affiliate marketing though, I may move to GetResponse (because it's cheaper for 10k subscribers)
