Homepage Stucture

What would you put on a home page for an authority information type site? When I have a lot of content I see it being smart to make it a point of reference for things on the site, or displays excerpts of the best posts on the site. But I have too little content for that atm and need to fill the page up with something. Would you just stick an article that might otherwise have been on its own page?

    I would get more content.

    Either write some more articles or buy some. Sometimes the best action to take is to wait and be patient.

    Take a look at some of the most authoritative sites in whatever niche you're working in and see what they've done - might give you some ideas

    Depending on what you see in your niche, you might want to act accordingly, or better yet improve what's already out there.

    You could take the classic approach of laying out the welcome mat for visitors...an example of creating the "let me help you find what you're looking for" homepage is something like the one on marketing4writers.com. The owner of this site recently rebranded, and while I'm not necessarily a huge fan of everything this meant for her site, it did create a very helpful homepage.

    And if you don't have enough content on an authority site, the key is to always get more

      Yea thats what I would do but shes hyperlinking to content. I have like 5 pages atm. Dont really wanna add more until I see some potential in this niche besides just keyword competetition

        Without a lot of content pages, you can't really come up with a proper home page layout right now since the home page is what directs visitors to your inner pages. It might be best to simply include content only and then link to some of the inner pages in that article.

        Also, you should have a good idea of the potential of a niche before you jump into it. There are other variables to consider besides just keyword volume. Measure market intent to purchase as well as competition; whether the market is evergreen, the estimated volume of buyers, demand, etc. If all of the boxes are checked, you will have a much better idea of how the market will perform before you get into it.

    Do you have a list with an opt-in offer? Or are you waiting on that, too?

    If you have such an offer, put that front and center on the home page.

    Follow it with a full article, your very best, then links to the others.

    Grow the home page as you grow the content. Right now, all you have is an "authority information type site" with neither authority or information.

      Do good sized square graphic panels lay them out 3x3 or 2x4 depending on how much you have content wise. You can later focus the panels on topics and not specific articles.
