Is comment spam on the rise?

Seems like lately I am getting these huge link dump comment spammers putting 2 pages of links into my blog comments. I never approve them but they keep flowing.

I wonder what life is like for the sweat shop workers who crank this stuff out...

I get about 100-140 spam comments a day
on my blog, just install SPAM software and forget
about it, Brad.

I am not sure if it is on the rise but I know I get tons of it each day.

I hate spam too and get it everyday but it may surprise you
that some of these "sweat shop workers" are probably making
more in a month than you make in a year.

I personally know an underground marketer that makes over $400,000
a month from comment spam both from the traffic it brings from people
clicking on links and the rankings hes able to achieve from the backlinks
for some extremely competive and non competitive terms.

And from speaking to him about this sort of stuff he tells me that he knows
people that make even more than he does.

If you use wordpress the basic plugin Akismet has worked fine for me in the past from not allowing spam comments on a blog I ran a year ago.

I get those too. I use akismet and it does a very good job at marking this crap as spam.

I've been having this problem a lot lately as well. Seems like the last couple weeks have gotten out of control. Akisemet isn't catching most of it either. So I just log in once a day and delete them all. There is also an IP banner you should look in to for wordpress. I banned two ips and the spam slowed down for the most part.

It doesn't help that I have a do follow blog.

What's sad about the whole thing is that if these people took the time and effort to post some decent and relevant comments, on blogs relative to their niche they could gain great traffic and backlinks that stick!!
