They gon' kidnap my domain?

I'm worried about something, if I had a website that for example gets 100 uniques a day, and my domain registration is going to expire soon, couldn't the domain providers simply keep the domain for themselves not allowing me to renovate it, so that they can "steal" the stream of a 100 uniques a day?

Is this something I should worry about? Is it even possible, or you always have the chance to renovate your own domain, without some third party "kidnapping" it before it expires?

    First of all, a domain is not a kid
    Second, before it expires, renew it.
    Third, even if it expired, you can still renew it within a certain time before other people can take it away from you.
    No need to worry. No one can domainap a domain...

    Well if you care about the domain, you'll renew it. If you don't care and don't renew it, why does it matter?

    Also, I don't think many domain registrars are too concerned about a domain with 100 uniques per day

    Yeah I would renew it but my point is that the domain providers could reserve the domain for a third party so I don't have the chance to renew it, so that they can use the uniques the page would be getting daily.

      yes that is... Most registrars give you at least 20 days extension to renew the domain after it expired. But why wait?

      Yes, that's the case. They don't kidnap domains, but don't wait until the last day anyway. If it's important to you, just renew it.

      If you are running a business there are more important things to worry about.

      Renew it and move on.

      Do not worry about what could happen if you don't renew it, because, if you do not renew it you do not want it

    He's trying to ask if namecheap or godaddy would ever "steal" your domain by not allowing you to re-register a domain you currently own and taking it over. No, that won't happen.

      Doing something like that would be a good way to lose their license to register domains from ICANN. Which would lose them a whole hell of a lot more than they'd make from "kidnapping" your little 100 unique per day domain...

      As others have said, just renew it. Even if it's already expired, you have a number of days, which seems to vary by registrar, to get it back. Beyond that, there's another period where you can still reclaim the domain if you pay a fee of around $200. Once that expires, the domain goes back on the open market. If someone else has reserved it, it is theirs. If not, you can simply register it again at the regular price.

    You would be much better off just renewing the domain and worrying about getting more than 100 unique visitors a day instead of creating problems that aren't real to worry about.
