Here's something that will make a great topic. Out of all of the gurus on the Internet, which one has or has the potential to make the biggest difference in your, and possibly others financial situation? If you have a personal story related to a mentor fill free to share. |

Pay attention to the guys that have been dead long before the internet came around. Earl Nightingale, Dale Carnegie, Napolean Hill. Read and take action. Seriously. Don't just read. Trust yourself. |

None of the Gurus on the Internet are able to impact me any better than my own family - my sister is a life-coach and my brother is a psychotherapist. The money is just a reflection of successful implementations of revenue-based actions but they're driven by your psychology. Many 'Gurus' are not qualified to do any more than just tell others what they did - they're not qualified to tell anyone else what's best for them (despite what some of them think). My brother and sister have both been the most amazing inspirations to be, and I've met a LOT of people over the years and been a student of success. I literally do consider my brother as my mentor - he's a great businessman, a fantastic guy and has surpassed my own revenue creating abilities, so I'm always looking up to him. Andy p.s. Sorry if you wanted us to reply with some IM Guru who we don't really know. I've met a lot of the well-known IM Gurus and there are some nice people in that category, but I couldn't call any a mentor as such. |

Yes, I am right here, what do you want to know? Kidding of course. I've always looked up to John Reese, Willie Crawford, The Rich Jerk and Stone Evans, whose guides started me on the right path to IM. |

Don't need to apologize, although this is an Internet marketing discussion forum . Not everyone gets their inspiration and leadership from other Internet marketers. I must agree with you as for his family. They are my biggest supporters, and without them would not be where I am today.

Claude Hopkins, David Ogilvy, Gary Halbert, Dick Benson, John Caples, Robert Collier... All deceased and some of the best Marketing people in History, period. Learn from the best. There is no such thing as Internet Marketing, it's ALL marketing. This is why most IMers fail, bigtime. They are clueless at marketing.

Someone who can have a positive impact on your life. For me, its myself. I'm the one who knows myself in and out, where I lag behind, where I'm good and hence, I'm the best mentor in history for me! |

And when you assume you make and ass out of u and me. I happen to have books from ALL of those people (and a lot more) next to me right now. I read EVERYTHING I can get my hands on, and I always go back to the source for information. The question wasn't what names have produced good information - or I'd have listed some of those same people. Apart from you mistaken comment directed at me - I agree with you about marketing and IM. Obama. Because it is during his administration that we are likely going to have to deal with Internet Sales Taxes again. And that is going to make or break it for a lot of folks.

I've learned more from the late, great, legendary Gary Halbert.....then any ten living gurus put together. Greatness has a way of trumping space and time.....and reaching out beyond the grave. In the case of Gary Halbert and the body of work he left behind...I can assure you'se.....my revenue has increased dramatically......even though he left us too soon. xxx Vegas Vince Legend.

all of us can look to, and list 20 people in our lives. that is the easy part. a teacher, a trainer in the army hell your first girlfriend counts, but i really think that i have now become the sum of my mentors. hopefully all those teachers and priests, hookers and enemies have made me into someone i can admire, or if you like be proud to be. (now would one of you please phone my mother and tell her to stop worring) |

Gary Halbert definitely, no one comes even close! Reading the Boron Letters has probably been the best thing i've done in my life (i'm quite young though). I highly recommend it because it teaches more than just good marketing, it teaches a lot of things about how to live life properly as well.

Apart from that and all the other mentality and marketing books which I read and treasure, and apart from my parents and teachers and family and all that, nowadays there is only one active IMer I know of whose writing and advice is so valuable to me that I consider him a "mentor" even though he probably has no idea who I am. I don't want to say the name here because I know he is active in the forums and I don't want to embarrass the guy but I'll PM you with the name and see if you agree.

The best mentor in history was arguably Aristotle. He mentored Alexander the Great, who proceeded to rule the world. As for the Internet, are there any that REALLY offer mentoring? You need to have a relationship with them to get that. I think rather than pull stuff out of our ass, you should have some criteria, such as who has made the most money for his associates? I know Filsaime is responsible for taking a lot of guys from zero to rich. But he didn't do it with a "mentoring" program. He did it because of their relationship and work ethic. |

I know it's not the main part of the point you were making, but... To say Alexander the Great ruled the world is okay, so long as you're not counting any of North or South America, Australia and Antartica, or most of Asia, Europe and Africa. ![]() All the best, Michael

In my opinion the best mentors are those who share life changing psychological techniques that are the foundations of business and life success.

I don't have one. Too many mentors influenced my life to pick one. But I sure wouldn't mind listing some of them: Tony Robbins, Abraham Hicks, John Assaraf, Jonathan Budd, Jodie Thompson, Mike Filsaime, Anik Singla, Mike Dillard, Eben Pegan. Igor |

Leonardo Da Vinci. He created the internet in 1506, but was the only one online. He could only send emails to himself so soon got bored. So he wrote up his notes on the back of a cigarette packet and moved on to his next project, which I believe was the first helicopter. Sam ;-) |

This is a great topic and ties together with a solid business-building tip I picked up along the way. "The Best Mentor in History" is a very relative term. Every person is going to be touched in different ways by different people, so to say that the people I choose to follow and treat as mentors may not be the same for the person reading this forum post. Personally, as mentors, I pay close attention to Mike Dillard, Perry Belcher, Jay Kubassek, Andrew Cass, John Jackson, Napolean Hill, Anthony Busciglio, and Justin Woolf. When you're building your business, you want your "Board of Directors," or mentors, to be those who provide value, have something you want, and provide a means for which to get it. You want to surround yourself with people who think the right way, because ultimately, you mirror the thoughts and actions of those you most closely associate with. So choose your mentors wisely, and take action to mirror their acts and deeds so one day, you can share in the same success. |

This thread really got me thinking about what I look for in a mentor. I realize that is includes not just resulting material success but a fit with values that I strive to uphold. (Hmm, I think I may be hearing snorting out there!). Thus, I mostly don't look to IM experts by whatever description as a mentor for myself. I am finding that in the offline world through family, friends and associates where I find a broader nature of success. Thanks for the thread, CD |
