Three Years In - Update and Where to Go Now...

Hey Everyone!

I showed up in this forum in the spring of 2010 pretty much a newbie regarding internet marketing. It's been an amazing three-plus years and I've accomplished a lot. I've made a lot of mistakes and had a lot of successes.

First off, I need to say THANK YOU to this forum and those who patiently answered my questions and helped me get this thing started. I've accomplished a lot because of the generosity of many on this forum.

I'm hoping to get some general ideas and advice for moving forward and continuing to build my platform.

Here's Where I'm At:

  • I started with a blog, an eBook and a Facebook group/page. The unexpected consequence of the exposure I got - and my niche was exploding at the time - is that I became a B-level (some would say A) celebrity in my niche. I never really intended to have my name and face so "out there" but it is now.
  • My eBook has become a traditionally published book with a publisher that's now on amazon - awesome from a credibility standpoint, but not awesome from a profit one. The original book is now a credibility indicator as opposed to the money maker it was in 2011 and 2012.
  • I write multiple articles every month for the only print publication in my niche. My articles get very good, consistent feedback.
  • The bottom line is, my face and my work are well known and my book is launching next week officially. I also have the support of the magazine and their 100,000 fans on Facebook I can leverage - the same publisher of the book publishes the magazine so it's in their interest to help me gain more fans, followers, exposure, etc..

Now, the challenges:

  • The last year was very intense with writing for the magazine and getting my book rewritten, edited, etc. This means my blogging, Facebook and email list has been neglected.
  • Further, Facebook isn't what it was when I had my initial and significant success. Because of Facebook I formed partnerships and relationships and got visible enough to get the publishing gig, but now it's an uphill battle to get engagement where it used to be insanely easy.
  • The focus on the book and magazine also means I don't have new eBooks, etc. to be selling. I'm probably going to write at least one new eBook this year to create a more steady income to replace the income lost by traditionally publishing the new edition.
  • I do some phone coaching/consulting, but find it labor intensive. I think it's the best option for immediate income, but it's too "hands on" for me to consider it a viable strategy. And, of course, it's not scalable.

The bottom line is, I have a ton of viability and credibility in my niche - a lot of it is a surprise, honestly, but I haven't done enough of the "Internet Marketing" side to really cash in on the exposure.

So, my question is, where do I go from here?

Obviously, I need to restructure my email marketing and create products, but I'm interested in all your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks a ton!

Adam

    Hey, thanks for sharing...

It's cool that you got a book published. But of course, that doesn't pay as much. I always thought of it being just a LEAD generating asset, rather than a profit making thing.

Many authors now offer something extra to the book if you go optin in their website; they include that offer in the offline book.

I hope you'll find the time to create some decent back-end product or productS; because, that's where the money is

    Good luck to all!
    Peace

    Thanks, Paul!

Yeah, that's where I am now - needing to build a real sales funnel and the back-end products.

The book is great, but I'm an "author" now and not enough of an internet marketer. I want to blend the two. Starving author isn't where I set out to be in 2010
