How Does Someone Get into the Expert File?

When a t.v. news station wants to do a report, they reach into their digital files and call one of their experts to comment on the story. Does anyone have an idea as to the process to "get your name" into that file so that when something happens in your industry that you get the call?

    I am expert in spewing gossip. You can call me anytime..

    Anyway, if we are talking about weather report, a newscaster call an expert from weather bureau. So, if you want to be called an "expert", I think you should establish your self first on the field that you want to be an expert. Or maybe you can be a doctor of medicine to be called a "medical expert".. something like that I guess. You can't call your self an expert without accomplishing anything... Ask Perez Hilton (expert on stalking celebrities).
