Two questions about article marketing

For someone who has a hard time writing ezine articles on top of his site content...

Is it a good idea to just republish my blog posts on ezine? Should I at least rewrite them? I know about the duplicate content but I also know that the original usually stays on top in google and if at all, the dupe gets the hit. This method would only be for getting the backlinks. Does ezine actually allows for submitting your blog posts as articles?

If I target my niche keywords with ezine articles wouldn't that compete against my own site? Obviously its more desirable to have your actual site rank higher than any ezine article. So wouldn't it be better to target keywords that your site isn't but still have to do with your niche?

Thanks ya'll.

The easiest answer is yes, you can submit content you've already got on your own site to EZA... as long as it's yours and yours alone. They might question it if they discover it's already published, but if you explain that it's on your site and you authored it, they should accept and publish it. I've been down that road and it worked out fine. Just be polite and explain things to them if it comes up after you submit something to them.

Re: duplicate content, that pertains to having the same content on one site more than once. What you're doing here is not anything to worry about. You may want to rewrite the 2nd version in order to better your chances of showing up in the SERPs, but I've seen duplicates of my articles right next to each other in the SERPs at Google several times. Same exact article, but on different sites.

To better your chances, get backlinks pointing to your article on your site and at EZA. If it's a keyword that isn't too competitive, you may well see both of them showing up in the SERPs. Basic rule of thumb: the more competitive the keyword, the more (and better) links you'll need to get a decent ranking.

Zeus gives some good advice there. Not surprising though since he lives in Texas (What's Up Zeus, I'm in Fort Worth). I usually like to get my stuff published at EZA first and then put on Blog, but it is preference

I won't add to what Zeus has said as he has given good advice, but I would add that you could then make a Squidoo Lens (Takes less than 30 minutes) with the exact same blog content, Use the Big Arrow box and point it to your blog url. That way, you are adding another dimension for your blog content. I also record and podcast the content (Taught to me by Justin and Chaunna Brooke) thus making one piece of work do multiple things, which will really make your blog stand out.

    Hope this helps.

Maggie, the one issue you'll face if reposting blog post to ezinearticle is that your article may hit the duplicate post filter. I would say that you write two similar articles (One can be rewrite of other).

One can be posted on site, other on ezinearticles and you can link the ezine one to the 2nd post on your blog..

I highly recommend either rewriting your articles for EZA or perhaps emailing them before you start posting your dups. I got suspended on Friday from EZA for this. Hopefully they'll reconsider.

I write an article for my site then I do a complete rewrite which goes to EZA.
The anchor text in the EZA article goes to the original article on my site.

The 2 articles are on theme and 1 leads into the other.

If re-writing is a challenge, write a 800 word article, post half to EZA and the other half on your own site. Make sure the resource box gives a big enough reason for them to click tru

Thanks for the input. I still don't understand the logic in shooting for the same keyword(s) with your ezine articles. So let me ask this way: If I post an article that promotes the same keyword(s) as my blog post and I link to the blog post in that article, which one of the two gets ranked higher in google? Especially if both are pretty much the same article? Also, if I have SEVERAL ezine articles shooting for the same keyword(s) wouldn't that create a sort of mess and really bury my actual website in the SERPs?

I personally wait until EZA approves and publishes the article, then post it on my blog, and its been great. But to each's own.

EZA is a pr 6 and has an alexa ranking of 197. It is seen as an authority site and one of the best article directories. You are riding that wave. Depending on factors, such as relevance, pr of your page, number of backlinks; you can outrank an article on EZA.
