Do you have to actually buy a product to review it ?

Hey all,

Let's say I want to review a product and put my affiliate link after the review and hopefully, make sales.. So for example, If I want to make money online by reviewing products.. do I actually have to buy that product and try it out first on my own or can I review it without having to buy it myself? Because... I want to promote it by reviewing that product.. I don't want to buy it.. that's not what I want? Is there a way I still can provide a quality review for that product without buying it ?

Any help..

You can ask the seller for a review copy. Maybe the seller will give you one or not.

If not, then you will need to buy it to review it.

If you are intending to write a review for a product that you haven't seen, how can your dishonesty lead to sales? It could lead to sales, but you might have a lot of upset customers when they realize that your review doesn't match the product they purchased and you reviewed.

When I was promoting audio sample CD's the company I was selling for gave me any CD's I wanted. I ended up reviewing hundreds, and in total I had over £1,000 worth of free audio samples. Not sure if I could use them commercially, but it was a great bonus.

Go direct to the seller. Tell them your plans. If they believe what your doing could boost their sales, I can't see why they wouldn't give you a copy to review.

I know a guy that gets music hardware to review. All he writes is a 800 word article on them and often times he gets to keep the stuff. This is high value stuff too.

Worth a shot. Go direct and ask.

It's worth buying it if you can.
Many times they don't reply to requests for review copies.

Yes you can do reviews without buying. You could contact the seller and ask for a review copy. If that does not work, then just look at the sales page and make a review based off that. This is good for making video reviews.

Yes, you should buy it. If this is where you're already trying to draw a line then your "business" is in trouble.

I recently emailed a couple of vendors on Clickbank and got a review copy of each of the products that I wanted to look at, before promoting.
You can then give a more educated review of the product and see whether it's worth promoting in the first place.

I would saying buying the copy for yourself makes a lot of sense, that way you know you are under no obligation to say just the good things about the product. Also your audience would have that feel good factor and confidence in the truthfulness of your review...

However I would not mind reviewing a product without buying it until I do not claim that I have bought a copy and know what's inside.

    Hi,

Buy or try the product through the freebie route. Familiarize yourself with it so you can offer an intelligent, fair and honest review. Keep your credibility entact. Be honest. Use something then share your opinion.

    Thanks!

IMO, there is seldom any reason to buy products before selling them. I hardly ever do "reviews" per se, especially for high end or luxury products. Instead, consider recommending products that provide features most closely aligned with the needs of prospects within your targeted niche. Information and specific applications for these products can usually be found in trade journals, manufacturers' specs, trade shows, interviews with users, sales reps, etc.

    Easy answer:

If you are new as an affiliate and have no history of successful affiliated websites, then yes, you have to buy it.

If you are an established affiliate and can provide proof as such, then email the Vendor, describe your accomplishments, and you will have a very high chance of getting the product for free.
