Nice, I will try that later tonight. I hope it works for more than one because I need about 10 more by next week.

Now I am not saying that this is not a nice thing but newbies listen up. Most of the marketers in the know will tell you that saving a few bucks isn't worth the hastle of go daddy

Awesome, I have always been using the OYH3 which takes them to $7.49.

For domains, GoDaddy is great, unless you are pulling some black hat uses (they don't like that). For hosting, 100% true, not worth it. I have bought 100s+++ of domains through Godaddy over the years and never had a problem.

I used to use "CRANK" because I watch the Cranky Geeks from San Fransisco every week and Godaddy advertise on there. It does not work! Why? Maybe because I am not in the USA, go figure.

Yes but you are experienced in buying domains . Would give you two to one odds that 50% of newbies end up with hosting also .

Oh yes, those hassles. Yes Godaddy tries to upsell and add on as many extras as possible. I forgot that that can be overwhelming and confusing for newbies.

For newbies==>> Just buy the domain, skip ALL the extra stuff!!! Everything else (for the most part) will come with your hosting for free (just the cost of hosting).

^^^^ Make sure you read this about 100 times before you decide to actually go with GoDaddy, and don't say we didn't try to warn you. GoDaddy is horrible for hosting, domains, certifications, etc. They are a nasty company to try to work with.

Thanks for mentioning that Troy. You are totally right. You definitely don't want to mess with the GoDaddy hosting. But their domain name services are pretty good. I personally use NameCheap, but for someone wanting to buy alot of domain names, saving $3 a domain is pretty good.

The code is great and it can be a help to a lot of people . I just wanted to remind everyone that go daddy is very good at the upsales and such .

Those that don't understand these processes could end up with more than they started out to buy .

Course I have been known to mean one thing and say it another before :-)

Troy - I totally see where you are "coming from" but -

if you go into McDonalds for a 99c Special Burger - and come out with Large Fries, Big Drink & an Ice Cream Sundae - it isn't McD's fault !

        It's known as . . . . "Marketing".

Apologies for getting off topic about cheap domain name coupons!

Yeah.. Shame on them for trying to upsell.. The nerve.. Just kidding. Seriously Troy, you were spot on bringing that up because GoDaddy does do a good job of getting you to a cart full of SSL certificates, private whois, hosting, traffic and a bunch of other stuff.

I agree, I am not sure if anyone here has heard of Mike Filsaime's reasoning behind why he wont touch Godaddy. Apparently it cost him $20,000 on a launch.

For anyone who doesnt know the story I will briefly mention it here:

Godaddy are one of the only domain registrars who WILL take control of your domain for spamming complaints.

Now remember, alot of people assume, if they dont spam, they wont get a spam complaint against them.. This is NOT neccessarily true! If you have a large list (or aim to build one) It doesnt take too many of those people forgetting how or if they opted in and hitting the junk/spam button or making a complaint for this to add up to becoming an issue.

Now most domain registrars will refer these complaints on to the hosting company involved. Hosting companies will usually look into the issue and deal with you directly to get to the bottom of it. (and worst case, if they suspend your account you can change the nameservers on a domain name to point somewhere else. Within a short amount of time you are back up and running)

Not Godaddy. Godaddy will restrict and lock your domain for you. (Even if you dont host with them) They will point your domain to a spam abuse url and hold the domain while they "investigate".

Now, you have to contact them directly and their abuse department do NOT have a phone number you can call. Ultimately it will take ALOT of running around to get your domain back, all the while, its being redirected to a spam abuse page. IF you do get your domain back (Godaddy reserve the right to reclaim a domain) they charge you an admin fee of what I believe to be around $90 (at the moment) to get your own domain back.

Now, whilst this might not happen to alot of people, the last thing you want to do is build your list up successfully, build a new product, launch it and send a message out to maybe 10,000 subscribers only to have 5 or 6 forget where they opted in, complain and then have your entire launch shut down and routed to a spam abuse page for a week or so while you deal with Godaddy.

Apparently this happened to Mike Filsaime in his early days online (costing him what he estimated as around $20,000 if I remember correctly) and he has never touched them since.

Because of this reason (and others) alot of IM's dont deal with Godaddy. They are well known for not being easy to deal with.

I personally use NameCheap and have found them not neccessarily to be the cheapest, but very easy to deal with.

A few dollars savings up front is just NOT worth the hassle and potential loss of income in future. (Remember, we are all trying to run a business here.. The old example of "would you use a budget brain surgeon?" comes to mind. i.e. Dont save dollars now at the expense of risking thousands later, in your business!)

As for Godaddy hosting, dont touch it! (There are alot of better options out there and id be happy to advise anyone who is looking)

I dont mean to bash Godaddy, it just seems their domain "abuse" department is a profit centre for them.

If anyone has other information feel free to post.

(And lastly, obviously.. I DONT condone spamming in any way)

Wow, thanks for the code, it just worked fine... but i'm bummed 'cause I've been hosting on godaddy since day one. I'm still small, but I won't be for long and now you've got me nervous. Thanks! LOL

      Peace,

I have just used the above advice for finding "godaddy coupon2 on google for namecheap it works for that as well if you are looking for an alternative to Godaddy. I did this after reading the illuminating post above by Josh that alarmed me a little.
I already have a few domains at Craynium (don't know if they are any good/ trust worthy) and godaddy themselves. I had been looking for a reliable alternative place to buy domains instead I found these coupons which might be better many thanks to those who have given the advice.

    Cheers

Well, I got 1 domain at $5.20, but I couldn't use it for a 2nd. Must be a 1 time use per account. OYH3 still works for $7.69 though.
