Issues with being an affiliate!!

So, what if somebody clicks on your affiliate link so a cookie with your aff id is put in his pc, but then he buys the product later on from his smartphone? or using another browser? or after the cookie has expired? what if they clean their cookies everytime they close their browser?

You wouldn't get your commision...

Is this important when you are an affiliate? Do these kind of problems represent a considerable amount of money being left in the table?

    Well in theory that is a problem and in practical life that does happen. That is where as an affiliate marketer you keep track of your conversions and act accordingly. So basically as long as I am making money and am profitable I would not worry about factor like the ones you mentioned on which I do not have a lot of control.

    Yes! This is a Big issue which is faced by every affiliate Marketer. In this particular problem I think promoting a Pay per lead programs is beneficial which is done instantly. For instance a website gives you $5 for just send him one email subscribe to them.

    Yes this does happen. But rarely...

    People aren't as evil as you think. I'm always aware of when I'm clicking someones affiliate link but I'm more than happy to give the referrer a cut of the commission if they were the ones that brought me to the product.

    Most people don't clear cookies regularly. You just have to hope that they buy from the same computer they clicked your aff link on.

    I doubt this happens very often regarding smartphones.
    People rearly buy using smartphones.

    What happens more often is when they click through other affiliate link
    and then the sale goes to other affiliate.

    Or delete their cookies, as you mentioned. But there's nothing we can do about it.

    This is why you want to collect email addresses. At least you could then send
    other affiliate offers later to the same person and make a sale.

    There is basically nothing you can do about it. If people use another computer or smart phone and go back to the same offer, the cookie won't work anymore. In fact, some people will clear their cookies periodically, I have found that if you promote products that don't target internet marketing, you will have customers who are less savvy about things such as cookies and how to clear them, and so on. However, that does not solve the problem of people using a different computer. This is also why many will advise you to offer a bonus and capture their email address -then you "have" them in your system and don't care about cookies.

    Yes, it does happen and there's not much you can do about it.

    People don't offer clear their browsers, but they do browse the net from their iPad and then purchase from their computer (or viceversa), or from work, or from their wife's computer, etc.

    Are you losing a significant chunk of your affiliate commission? that's anyone's guess, really. It's impossible to track the exact magnitude of the problem, but like I said before there's not much you can do about it, so don't overstress about it.

    If they click your link from MACHINE A, then access and buy the same product through a different link via MACHINE B, you will not get credited the sale.

    Even the elite level affiliate programs that track IP addresses wouldn't help you in the event that they buy from a smart phone or something, because the purchase will come from a totally different network.

    On the bright side, this doesn't happen that often. (I don't think).

    One thing you can do to statistically combat this scenario, is offer a bonus that expires.

    Prompt them to buy and QUICK.



    I honestly don't think it's an issue though.

    Just as you can loose the sale to another webmaster with a more resent cookie, the reverse can be true too so it's not always a bad thing.

    Yes this can happen and yes you will not get the commission. If you refer a person from their computer and they purchase then you get credit. If they login to a free computer like at Kinkos or their smartphone you will not get credit because you did not refer them from that location.

    It is not something worth losing sleep over.

    Things like this do happen but you can't spend time worrying about it and trying to solve the problem because nobody can.

    I know probably everybody goes through this feeling but you'll learn to get over it and just concentrate on getting things done.

      As everyone has said, it does happen. Similar things happen like users clicking through another affiliate link as well. These are all things that can happen and that you can't really stop. The best thing to do is try and target people late in the buying stage so that they have no reason to take a break between your website and buying the product.

    I've sold a great many products on Clickbank for many years. Based on some intensive research I've done, I estimate 5% of affiliate sales are not targetted towards the affiliate at all, with me as a Vendor getting full credit.

    5% is not a big problem. It is just part of the game.
