Just got a call from PayPal asking how happy I am with the Warrior Forum.

I,obviously, said that I'm very comfortable with the service here.

Does this happen often? Anyone?

You are serious ? It is possible that some one complained about WF and they are taking a survey to see how there costumer says about the service.

But that not make sense at all. It might be scammers.

Paypal never rings anyone for survey. They just use email system for survey. Don't forget Big/pro companies prefer to have record of everything in written version

You should probably change your paypal password AFTER running malware software.

I'd say that Paypal is very much aware of this forum. I'd guess that they have a large number of complaints, refunds and other nonsense originating here. It doesn't surprise me at all that they would call certain people for a chat.

I think normally they'd shut it down if it was some small-time website doing even a few thousand a week.

But let's all be serious, we all know the WF Paypal account is going to be doing some serious money and I suspect for that reason, Paypal (for once) are first investigating complaints before acting upon those complaints.

I suspect they are seeing who has spent money here recently (did you spend money here recently, pay to start a WSO/upgrade to the war room or whatever), and then contacting you.

Did they ask for your name/login details first? Did they ask for any form of identification like the last 4 digits of your card on the account? Did they ask for your password?

If you answer yes to anoy of those then MAYBE, just MAYBE, there might be something fishy. But from what I can see, I think it sounds legitimate.

The easy way to answer it is to try giving Paypal a call or posting in their support forums. The latter is probably your better option. Just ask the general question: Will Paypal ring to ask about the service of another website.

Good luck and keep us all posted!

I have to agree that it wasn't Paypal and what makes me believe that we have someone scraping or selling our info is that it is no coincidence that I just received a phone call a few hours ago not about Paypal but about a great money making opportunity, I just hung up on them.

I've asked two people over at PP about this and they've never heard of this before, especially with this forum.

Remember, there are some sophisticated phising scams out there where people are claiming to be calling from Facebook, Google, IBM, AT&T, etc. and sometimes they start off with with a first, seemingly innocuous phone call.

Did the person who called you identify themselves? Did they provide a call back number that you could call and match up with Paypal's official website?

I'm in the camp that is doubtful that this really is Paypal.

It sounds suspicious to me. Paypal wouldn’t bother someone by phone, without being able to prove that this phone call was really coming from Paypal, and without a previous email message asking this person if they would accept a phone conversation…

I hate when people want to call me instead of sending me an email message that I can open whenever I want.

I’m sure that Paypal knows that many people are like me, and they don't like to be bothered by phone.

I don't think it was paypal. if paypal was investigating something they usually ask you for proof of invoice or receipt from customer and vendor. They do this from the email address that you have registered with them, they never call you. I think they have it somewhere in their policy that they never do things like that

This reeks of social engineering like nobody's business. I'd probably go the paranoid route and start by changing all my passwords, cause sounds like somebody screwed up and some undesireable people (aside from paypal heh), got a database somewhere, with your info on it jacked. This is the internet after all so it happens all the time (just ask Target about it), that's why is good not to have the same passwords for everything, and not having a pet's name (you know you probably took pictures with it all over facebook), as your pass.

    Cheers & good luck.

Did they ask how much you like PayPal?

If they asked for any information to verify your identity it is most probably a scam.

For legal reasons I seriously doubt PayPal would be contacting its customers users and asking questions about the customer. Then again, it is eBay / PayPal and nothing would surprise me.

I've been with Paypal since 2000. They've called me twice in that time period, though never with questions about this forum or any other forum. They didn't ask for any info. They knew exactly who I was.

The first time they were calling about unusual activity in my account. I went from no sales to a boat load of sales in the course of a week. I told them what I was doing and they were cool with it. The second time they called it was to tell me I was getting some sort of preferred member status. This meant they were no longer requiring a 'hold' on funds.

So to say they don't occasionally call members isn't accurate. I have no idea if they actually called the OP or why they called if in fact they did.

due to the traffic the WF gets, and the WSO transaction and all the rest, I am sure they would be well aware of this forum, however asking that question would not make sense from a paypal authority or employee.

That type of thing would be extremely easy to spoof. Anyone experienced with social engineering should be able to easily spoof the number showing on caller ID and the name associated with it.

They couldnt set up an LLC/DBA with a similar name and mask/retrace the phone address?

There's a guy on YouTube who does prank calls in such a way that you think the number calling you is legit (ie. You see your mother's number on your phone, but when you answer it is actually the Prank Caller).

Scammers can do many things. Perhaps it is very easy to pretend to be Paypal to Vonage; easier than passing the email filters that send spam messages to the spam folder.

    Hi Uniden,

To be safe, if you have any doubts, don't offer information. You can always contact PayPal directly by phone or email or by Facebook or Twitter, and ask a representative to review your account to determine if a call was attempted.

    I hope this helps!

To be on the safe side, it is better to conclude that the call is a scam and protect your account as such. Paypal has nothing to loose against any protective measure that you take; rather I think it is better for them.
