Default How to transfer a flipped site to a buyer even if you are a newbie

I know this is what many people face in terms of challenges after flipping a site.
I am going to give you the easiest way to transfer a flipped site to your new buyer
and you can do this in few minutes without being a pro. Let me use the hostgator
example.

1. Host your site with hostgator reseller package
2. Receive your money from your buyer
3. Ask him/her to open a hosting account with hostgator and send you his account user name
4. Chat with hostgator technical support, ask them to transfer a hosted site on your own account to another account which is your buyer's account. Be honest to tell them you sold
the site to your buyer and want to transfer it.
5. They will transfer it in a short while to your buyer's account at no cost.

You can apply this to any hosting account by a different hosting service...

I hope this will help... Henry

I would think that most people would have hosting accounts already and maybe they wouldn't be using Hostgator. In this case it would be a good idea to learn how to send them your site files as a zip and push them the domain name. If your site uses wordpress you'll have to figure out how to export the mysql database.

I agree! It's always a good idea to learn how to do it, or find someone you can depend on to do it for you, if you plan on flipping sites.

Transferring a WordPress site can be a bit tricky! Exporting the mysql database isn't that difficult, however, there can be issues with importing it into the new host if the mysql version is different, if they have a different php version or if any of the phpadmin settings are different.

The most trouble-free way I've found to transfer a WP site is to use the export feature built into WordPress (under Tools for v2.7.x and under Manage for earlier versions), which exports all the posts and pages into an xml file, then download the wp-content folder (which contains the theme and plugins) using an ftp client.

On the new host, do a fresh install of WordPress, ftp the original wp-content folder up to the new WP site, overwriting the one that's there. Then log into the new WP site and use the Import feature to import the xml file containing all the posts and pages from the original site.

You'll have to activate the plugins, select the theme and go thru the Settings for the new site, but that only takes a few minutes.

The only issues I've run into with moving a WordPress site this way has been if the original WP site had a large number of posts and/or pages which made the exported xml file too large to import. Sometimes there's a size limit set in the WP Import feature where you can only import 2 mb, but you can contact the host and have them raise or remove that limit.

You can also use this method to move your own wp sites from one host to another if you need to change hosts at some point.

HTH,
Tamara

There are many that do not have a reseller acct but a "Baby Croc" with Host Gator. In that case it can be a little more difficult if you try to get HG to to do it for you. I suggest using an ftp transfer in that case.

Thanks, but why do we need a hostgator reseller account when the buyer shall open his own account?

No. You can still use the baby account and ask hostgator to transfer/push it to your buyer
