Arbitrage Opportunity

I've had this idea for a while, but I've never pursued it.

This opportunity exists nearly everywhere, but in the UK, Gumtree is the dominant classified site.

There's a lot of ads that say "Cars and Vans Wanted" and "Sell Your Car Today".

There's also people placing ads to sell their cars, not just on Gumtree (Autotrader etc).

I was wondering whether there's an arbitrage opportunity here?

How would you go about profiting from it?

What was the point of your post?

He found a place in downtown Los Angeles where he could buy an assortment of bed sheets for a very good price (he bought in bulk) and he would sell them at the local swapmeet. Though not my cup of tea, he made enough doing this anywhere from 25 to 40 hours week to quit his job and afford health and disability insurance.

      There opportunities like this everywhere.

There was a report released some time ago about this but you could act as a middle man collecting referrals for places looking to buy cars. Then you could contact those selling and refer them to these places. Collecting a commission on each transaction. This would save the trouble of you having to deal with titles and licenses to become a dealer. Just a thought.

That's what I'm trying to avoid. Having to be licensed etc. I like the referral fee model.

You have to connect two people that are in the market for a relatively low priced object. Yes, you might make a hundred pounds or so out of one deal but the effort is way to big. It would not really make sense.

The only thing that might work: you could bird-dog for a larger used car dealer ship. Basically find them cars and they would give you cash for a successful transaction.
Yeah, I probably worded it wrong when I said "arbitrage". Being a bird dog is more like it. Getting a fee for finding cars.

I'm not looking to flip cars, per se. More like getting a referral fee.

Yes, because it's an online business model.

Yes; this is the main discussion forum where we talk about "making money". As long as it's about making money and it doesn't belong in any of the other subforums (like SEO, Social Media Marketing, Offline Marketing, PPC, CPA networks, etc.), then it can be discussed here.

Point of my post is that, cars are not just a matter of buying and selling, there's a lot involved. Cars are big (in a sense that they're not digital or petty products).

I'm not trying to "buy and sell". More like a referral fee.

I tried to do it with a couple dealers and they told me I needed to be licensed to get the sell. Maybe we wasnt communicating properly, but, they wouldn't let me work with them as a middle man, or, referral guy.

Not to discourage you, just telling you my experience.

      That's disappointing. It sounds like they're short-sighted.

Apparently, anyways, give it a go and see what happens.

        All the best.
