How To Get ebook Reviewed Without Being Stolen?

Coming up with an ebook. I want it to be reviewed by this person.

Yet, I do not wholly trust this person.

How do I protect my ebook?

    When you say "protect your ebook" do you mean you're concerned that he is going to steal the contents of your eBook and publish a similar one as his own?

    If this is the case, you could publish the book first (or if you're selling the eBook, list the product for sale) and add the review later. Or, if you were planning on improving the eBook based on the review, then just publish an updated version.

    Alternatively, give your eBook to multiple people to review. So, if there is a dispute about who created the eBook first (you or him), you'd at least have multiple people who can confirm when they received your eBook.

    If it's a PDF you can always watermark it "Review Copy Not For Resale" or something similar to stop it from being re-sold, but if you're afraid this person is going to do their own “knock off” version, then (like others have said) don't share it with them.

    why would you have them review your ebook then? That does not make sense! Just go to somebody you trust and give them a copy if they promis to write you a honest review! Unless you skepaticle of your content and thats why you are having this guy write you a review?

    Well, You should always make sure they are reputable first, But you can also add a watermark accross all pages. If your really over the top, there is software available such as viral boomerang that will completley Lock your PDF to one persons PC, and they need to enter their Unique Licence code to open it. Thus if shared to someone else, It would lock them out.

    Take the eBook and put your Affiliate links (shortened/cloaked) inside it recommending products throughout the eBook. Then when you save it as a PDF, make the settings so they can't copy/paste the content or print the eBook, they must read it online. You can then send the eBook out for review. If you do this and they choose to forward the eBook around or create a page and sell your eBook, they will be promoting your affiliate links.

    There will always be people who will copy / rewrite your stuff and steal it, but I don't worry about them as eventually the customer figures out they have no clue. I also agree with the others here... If you don't trust the person, find someone else as there are many reputable people here on the forum.

    If you want a review, I'd just give it to him to review. Once you publish the book, if someone wants to steal it, they can and will, so it's unavoidable. I'd focus on building your brand and marketing the heck out of your book rather than whether someone is going to steal it.

      It will be stolen. Plan on it. There are serial reviewers who prey on this forum just for this purpose. Before you give out a copy check their posts - I have seen some people that have dozens of posts that just ask for free review copies and even hassle OP's if they don't give them one . . .

      Build your first guide as part of a front end tool so that you don't care if it is stolen and will even benefit you somewhat if it is. Add your links throughout the guide and make sure when you deliver the final product you leave out a critical step that will only be provided to those who subscribe to you. Make this step to be delivered in a few days so you can make sure it is only going to paid customers. You can also add a commentary that if this guide wasn't bought here - you have a stolen copy and will not be complete as you need to be on the mailing list for updates.

      This is what I do and advice clients as it is almost impossible to prevent ebook theft at least without extensive cost.

      I agree. It's so easy to get caught up in stuff like this that it prevents progress from being made.

      Stealing and pirating ebooks is easier than ever. All the different programs and "locks" can be hacked with little effort by someone with the right knowledge.

    You can use something called LockLizard to secure your PDF. It allows you send them a secure doc...they can't even open up any Snipping Tools or Capture program to take it..It shuts the program down. Very cool tool...but it is not FREE. Good Luck

    Make is as difficult as possible to copy/paste steal, then send it on.

    Also, as mentioned, if it's good, it likely will get stolen. You just need to be ready with your second edition/follow up, so you can get the initial income from the book and once the knock offs come out, you've already made a bulk of the money and have product number 2 in the pipeline and ready to go.

    If you don't trust the person, then don't give them your book to review.

    If someone wants to steal your work, they will. It's sad but true. All the watermarks and copyright protection in the world won't prevent it from happening. But that doesn't mean it will happen.

    Publish the book for sale and then get it reviewed. That way it's already out there.
