Is this FORUM worth Buying???

Hi people,

Im new to ebusiness thus need some advice.

A forum is for sale with a price tag of £500 (830$). The forum has been running for 5 years and is targeted at a niche population which I have other projects aimed at (thus why I want to buy the forum). My only concern is the forum has no adsense integrated and hasn't been looked after so well.

The seller stated that it was registered with DMOZ and that alone is worth quite a bit - is this true?. In terms of SEO, its second (Google) on keyword searches, which is pretty good.

It has roughly 20 people online at any random time and av time spent is about 5 minutes.

I appreciate any help.

Does the site rank in google at all? And is there any current analytics available?

Back when I ran CPM ads, I used to run a bunch of forums. I've mostly given up on that. Very hard to monetize and resource intensive. If you feel it will help drive traffic or PR to another site, it may be worthwhile. But if you're looking for a forum with no previously established revenue source to by itself provide a return on investment on a purchase price, you could be looking at a uphill battle.

I don't think this forum is worth £500 because you stated
It has roughly 20 people online at any random time
This is a low number for a forum priced £500.

I would be very careful to check the rankings of the forum. And make sure there are many active members. Get the owner to show you live proof via Skype screen share or any screen cast service. To show the active members. If there isn,t active members and constant traffic it will just end up being a waste of time. And will probably cost you ten times what is worth to get it going

Keep in mind too that forums are a fair amount of work, especially moderating posts to keep the spammers out.

20 people online at any random time isn't a whole lot. Maybe try to negotiate for a lower price.

I wouldnt buy it without verified analytics. You really need to find out Several things before proceeding.

    1. How much Traffic does the site get on a daily basis?
    - Is it paid traffic or Organic Traffic
    2. Is it an evergreen Niche, Or just a Trend that could dissapear next month.
    3. How many Members does the Forum Have?
    - How active are they, How many Posts have they made etc
    4. Ask How he got the site into DMOZ, And Ranked.
    - Whitehat or blackhat tactics?
    5. If its such a great site, with lots of traffic, Why is he selling it?

What are the earnings of this forum?
If it doesn't have Adsense integrated perhaps it was banned by Google, and perhaps this is why the buyer wants to sell it...
Usually price for the site = earnings of the site x 10, therefore: if the buyer wants 830$ then I would expect it to earn 83$ per month.

    Hi

Most adsense ads get a tiny click through rate on forums so I wouldn't buy it for that reason.

As others have said you would need traffic and revenue stats confirmed.

    Forums are hard work....

I have a successful forum for the last 7 years and it doesn't get any easier... I am doing some big advertising deals though and have gained a lot of recognition and also got over some massive hurdles.... so there is money to be made...

From the information you have given I would walk away....
