Content is information, plain and simple.

Everything that you build content into, from written word to moving pictures and spoken audio is then a medium for content delivery. This is why you can approach one subjects from a thousand angles. It's not a form of communication but is what you are communicating.

I say 'moving pictures' above because it's an easy analogy to make. Think of a movie, any movie you'd want to watch. As a general viewer you see this as a 'movie', but if you approach it technically and view it as 200,000 individual pictures and a digital conversion of audio into a bitstream then it becomes content. You can create this content but it doesn't become a 'movie' until you place it in context of communicating to another person.

So I guess first off the question should be just a little clearer.

Are you looking for a state of peaceful happiness

    con·tent
    adjective: content

1.in a state of peaceful happiness.

Or are you referring to content as it relates to information?

If you're referring to as it applies to information then I believe content/information is the new "cash" of the world and is one of the best industries ever.

The term “Content is KING” has been thrown around for years now. It was first termed way back in 1996 by none other than Bill Gates. Back then he made predictions that no one was thinking about at the time.

    Here are a few quotes from his article;
“Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet just as it was in broadcasting…”
“One of the exciting things about the Internet is that anyone with a PC and modem can publish whatever content they can create…”

There are already some interesting comments on this thread so I'll be interested to see what the outcome will be. Thanks for posting the question Savidge and look forward to your final thoughts.

    Make it a great day,
    Joe

Well I asked another question today. but it got removed. I had this grand plan to ask a series of questions over a few days. what is Content. What is relevance, How do you build relevance into a page, how do you build relevance into a site? now that we have content and relevance how to we leverage traffic? etc etc.

But the powers that be squashed the idea on question 2. To be honest I was surprised the 1st question is still here.!

I have always been interested in the concept of being a Knowledge Engineer. So, what does that mean? Well, you go from data into information into knowledge. In the 1990s, we saw the term, "data swamp", as computers gather more and more datum and the rise of the Internet made much of it available. With info, the datum is gathered together into what is called, "tuples", or you could think of them as records. It is context and ontology that makes info into knowledge. Knowledge being the power to apply info in some meaningful way.

I would say, at the minimum, that content should be at the info level. Data is not content (I am sure Google would agree!). Knowledge is rare and often incorrect.

Content is Information. And, yeah, on The Information Superhighway, that is Currency.

Content is any consumable media. This can be video. It can be articles. It can be a live performance. It can be images. There are lots of other options as well. A video game is content. A puzzle is content.

        Medically speaking, content is:

        A) Something contained and usually used in the plural like this: The stomache contents

        B) The subject matter or symbolic significance of something such as "manifest content" or "latent content".

        C) The amount of specified material contained. For example, the magnesium content of a sample.

Content delivers solutions to the user, whether in the form of text, videos, ebooks, reports, white papers, etc. The Internet is essentially made up of content in its various forms. Users look for information, answers to their questions, solutions to their problems, or even entertainment. Quality content delivers what those who search the Internet are looking for.

Content is something that everyone needs. And also something you and I look for. It may take different forms, but the ultimate goal is to reach the target audience effectively. Your delivery and content marketing strategy should make them revisit your blog i.e. their source of content.

If you are talking about content marketing when it is something valuable you create and share for the reason to attract and convert prospects into customers and later into repeat buyers.

You must provide quality content so that people would know, like, and trust you enough to do business with you.

    Hope this helps

There are several posts that say something must be valuable to be considered content.

      I disagree.

Crappy content is still content. Spam is content. Those spun garbage articles are content. So are the lame "videos" made from them clogging YouTube. It's all "content", but not all of it is either desirable or worthwhile.

Content is the most basic of building blocks in the business of Internet Marketing. Without content, there would be nothing. We use Content to sell content. We use content to sell services. We use content to sell product. Content is what allows our world to go round.

There is good content, there is bad content, there is content that sells, there is content that does not. Content is a tool. Content used correctly can be a great method to leveraging a result. Content used incorrectly is like getting hit over the head with a hammer!

As posted here content takes on many forms. It is created / consumed in may different ways. Content is Medical, Scientific, Boring, Googled, Clogging, Information, and host of other things.

Content is something that many of us here spend much of our day developing and tweeking. And there are others that spend very little time.

Content in 1996 was Proclaimed King, by the king himself Bill Gates. In todays world or even the world then for that matter, I am not so sure that was / is the case. But that is Content for another day ( Briteday )

I would like to thank each and every one of you for sharing your content on content, be it good bad or indifferent. It was a simple question on the most basic of tools in our professional lives. In the end for me I learned, I laughed, I got pissed! haha

        Once again Thanks!
