ICANN delay in sending verification email?

I bought a new domain name yesterday through Domains in Seconds. I have used them to purchase domains for several years, and have never had a problem.

I wanted to change my nameservers to my hostgator hosting account this morning, so I could install Wordpress and begin building my site. When I logged in to Domains in Seconds, and accessed the menu to change my nameservers, I receved a pop-up message "To access this functionality, you must verify your registrant email address: xxxx@xxx.com". There was also a "resend" button you could click, which I did, expecting the email would be sent right away.

I still have not received the verification email. I called the Domains in Seconds support line and after a 15-minute wait on hold, the support tech said his supervisor told him the delay is due to a new ICANN policy that requires up to a 24-hour delay in sending the verification email.

I did a quick google search and could not seem to find anyone else was experiencing a similar problem, nor could I find mention of any new ICANN policy regarding a forced delay of up to 24 hours to get a verification email.

Does anyone have any thoughts, maybe a link to share where I can read up on what is happening?

I think maybe you need a better registrar.

PM me if you want a free eNom reseller account - they are the best out there.

Then I would have to change the registrar on all my domains. I have done this one time before -- the one time I did not use Domains in Seconds -- and transferring the domain was a hassle.

I like keeping my registrar and host separate, in order to avoid "all the eggs in one basket" scenario.

Thanks for your quick reply...yet, you really didn't provide any additional information to help solve the problem.

No offense but nobody at WF is going to be able to "solve the problem"...
        Only your registrar can...
If it's been 24H, get back to them and demand an explination.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I never suggested merging your registrar with your host. I am an advocate of not doing that.

Clearly, your current situation isn't working for you. While you may not have recognized it, I provided exactly the information to solve your problem.

Whether you are truly interested in solving it, however, is another matter.

My offer stands. Either way, best of luck.

ICANN Registrant Verification is Coming Soon | Hover Blog

For new domain registrations, it will mean that shortly after you register a domain, you'll receive an email with a special link that you'll need to click in order to verify that the email address you provided is valid, and that it is in your control. That verification must happen within 15 days.
    ...
Keep in mind that this new policy applies to all registrars, not just Hover. We're required to follow the procedure in order to maintain our ICANN accreditation that allows us to sell domain names.
In turn, registrars enforce that on their resellers. Your provider appears to be a
    reseller for a registrar.

It's possible your provider's email got filtered somewhere, or their email service
is having issues. Unfortunately, only that provider can resolve the matter.

I agree with the others that you would be much better served to change your registrar.

It is unacceptable to take that long for a registrar.
