Do I want to promote my youtube video or the site page that contains the embedded video?

I just posted a new video article/blog post with embedded youtube video to my site. When I promote the new video, through social and backlinks, do I want to link to the youtube video or directly to my site?

I know it probably seems like a silly question when the end goal is web site traffic but I have been reading so much lately about the power of youtube. If I have all the proper links back to my site in the video description, should I just promote the video or do I want to promote the blog post at my site with the embedded video? Help and thank you!

    I would try to rank both your YouTube video and the post you embedded it on. Keep in mind that YouTube videos are easy to rank right now (Google owns YouTube).

    Another thing to remember is that you're creating competion for yourself if you try to rank both your blog post and YouTube video. It's possible to get both of them to rank.
