Hilarious... The Only Spam Complaints I Get Are From Freebies

Absolutely hilarious. I sent out a free article today for the first time in a long time trying to be giving. So I told one of my lists about a method I use to get a killer education in IM and JV partners galore.

The result: Marked as spam and plenty of unsubscribes.

While my pitches almost never get marked as spam.

Mike Hill was right the other day when he revealed this fact to me. He said statistically you get marked as spam more and you get more unsubscribes when you give away content THAN when you pitch.

Best one is when you send a freebie - and someone asks for a refund.

What do you do - send them 5 minutes???

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

      Hehe

Just send them an e-mail that says, "here's some air."

No, say "Please return the product via UPS"

I'm not surprised at all... yet no doubt people will continue to come here and start threads preaching to us to give more and more free stuff.

The majority of people value things based on what they pay for them.

So your free content will often be valued far more highly and used if you make people pay for it.

            Unfortunately that is human nature.

I have noticed this trend of higher spam complaints from lists where you never pitch but only in other non tech savvy non internet marketing related niches.

            Kindest regards,
            Andrew Cavanagh

        He he...

Jason I've been saying this for months and not many marketers believed me...

I hardly ever give anything away any more - if I do give something away it'll be part of of a strategy where I also promote a product. I also avoid using words like "free", "gift", "no cost" etc.

I had to delete an email in my autoresponder that was w/o a doubt my absolute best when it comes to good content, for this very same reason - it had the bulk of my usubscribes!
