Im being deployed, What I want to do while im there....

Im leaving for afghanistan in 3 months for a 9 month long deployment. I will have my own internet access there. I want to run/start some sort of online business while im there or prior to leaving that i can still do while deployed. Aside from doing my normal 8-12 hour shift everyday, ill have 12 hours to eat, sleep, and workout. I think I can commit a couple of hours everyday for something. Right now I do dropshipping (DS Domination) its not really making me a whole lot of money, the amount of time required to find a item is ridiculous. I like ecommerce though.

Anyone have any ideas on something I could do for a year while deployed and really supplement my income while there?

    Hi

I'm just trying to think of ways to take advantage of your unique circumstances.

You could blog about your experience with video and pictures you take in Afghanistan.

From the blog link to affiliate offers for military gear, training/recruiting CPA offers etc.

The authenticity and trust you get from being actually deployed would bring good traffic from social sites like YouTube, facebook, etc.

For example talk about some equipment that you find invaluable and then direct your readers to where they can find a comparable tool for civilian use in hunting, camping or training for the end of civilization.

That would get you familiar with running a site and working with traffic and offers that you could then move to other business and niche ideas.

    Edit:
All that stuff could easily be moved to an ecommerce type site be replacing affiliate offers with your own ecommerce offers when it is a better time for you to run that type of site again.

Set up an autoresponder and build a list while you are at it. More eventual ecommerce customers.

First, thanks for your service dude! I appreciate your willingness to serve your country and go to war.

Second, hurray for having internet during a war! That will be great for you and give you lots of opportunities to build an online business while you have down time. If you wanted to something related to your military career then the above suggestion isn't bad. Since you didn't really mention any other interests it's a bit hard to give suggestions.

    Stay safe!

thats a great idea, although its not that kind of deployment, its not the same war that it used to be, i wont be going outside the wire little to none, so testing gear im not sure.

LOL Well I didn't necessarily mean you had to be all military in your niche

The main thing you need for any site- and you know this from ecommerce- is traffic.

I think being in Afghanistan serving in the military is an angle that would drive good traffic fromn social and media sharing sites.

Even a civilian working as a janitor could leverage a blog/facebook page with photos of local sights and culture, non-military construction/relief work or anything else interesting.

But no matter what you are doing over there, throw up a picture of yourself in uniform and 99% of your traffic is going to think you are G.I. Joe

Go for the angle of the "lonely deployed soldier" and rake in $20 a shot from CPA with militarycupid.com.

War is war and being deployed means serving, regardless of what you actually do so never belittle your job there.

Thanks for your service. Good luck over there. War is definitely serious business.

Not saying that it isnt serious business!!! However it can be boring and is very limited. A problem I faced in my last one was how to pass time! It was very slow going and in a transitional phase where we arent doing as much. More of a security force. Im just looking for something to do in my down time

Go to the bazaar that they usually set up on camp. Buy stuff. Resell it at a premium.
