Video Editing Software?

Hey,

I use a PC. What is the best video editing software for the money? Camtasia seems to be the most popular. Is that the best option?

Thanks,
Eric

I have read a lot of reviews, comparisons, etc. on the topic, and it seems to be pretty unanimous that Camtasia is best for PC. For Mac users, ScreenFlow is the preferred choice. I'm a both a Mac and PC user, but have only used video editing on my Mac (with ScreenFlow), so I'm not able to give you any user experience for the PC, but you wouldn't go wrong with Camtasia.

PS! While there are free tools out there, I looked into them as well and they just don't have the same capabilities to handle the different elements of a video production. On another note, depending on what software you already have installed, which OS you use, and the purpose of your video, you may get away with using programs like Windows Movie Maker. I did this once and it turned out decent.

Camtasia is getting more and more sophisticated with every release. It is basically screen video capture software but its editing capabilities are getting good. And it is is easy to use.

Cam Studio is the free alternative but has fewer features.

    Beyond that:
    Advanced Video Editing

Sony Vegas - Power-editing for the PC. Relatively easy to learn.
Adobe Premier - Power-editing for the Mac or PC. Tougher learning curve.
Final Cut Pro - Very serious power users on Mac only. Has been used to edit commercial releases.

    Those should get you started!

The best deal on Sony Vegas can be found on Amazon. Right now it's about $484 and that's from Amazon directly. I wouldn't trust any other seller because a lot of online sellers are selling bootlegs in legitimate-looking packaging.

Thanks gentlemen. I'll be using it for clips for opt in pages, video sales letters and product demonstration videos.

I don't think I have to use studio quality videos, but i do want them to look nice.. Camtasia it is.

    I appreciate the input.

Good choice man - I know some folks are in love with Vegas but it's all about the learning curve. In which case, Camtasia it has to be! Sounds like it's enough for what you want.

One tip: don't do hundreds of edits on the same recording - eg if you go to town and decide to cut out every "umm" there is. It will slow your rendering down dreadfully.

If you do find that happening, render the video as an .avi, and start with a new production with the .avi as the source - just drop it in to a new file and start afresh. Then you are back to full speed.

Took me a while to figure that one out...

      Cheers!

I use Sony Movie Studio, the "lite" version of Sony Vegas. I'm not techie, nor am I a video pro. But I DO want my videos to look nice so I needed some basic video editing software and skills.

It only runs about $50 and works very well for my purposes.

Edit: Sony Movie Studio is actually $80, but you can get it for about $50 from Amazon.

Cyber link power director 12 is the best one. I have adobe premier. Also, sony vegas. Corel video studio is pretty good, but it takes a very long time to render my movies. Cyber link power director works great with hero go pro camera. 4K cine video uses a lot of memory. Please remember to use a PC with a lot of processing power.

ADOBE PREMIER PRO is best video editing software for any kind of video editing. But it is a bit hard to use especially for newbies..

    Hi,
Yes, Camtasia is great but there is a free version of Camtasia called Active Presenter. There are a lot of similarities between the two.
    Go check it out! ActivePresenter.com

Are these software for free? I've been looking for a long time now, I got wondershare installed on my PC but I don't think it is good enough for me. I want a video editing software that makes simple but great videos (more like an info graphic type of video). If these are for free then I want to give it a try.

I have Camtasia 8 but am having a nightmare at the moment with it, random freezing and crashing.

I also have Sony Vegas Platinum 11, which at under $100 is great value and very powerful and focuses only on video editing.

If you can afford it I recommend Sony Vegas. I've been using it for years. I was lucky enough to have it bundled when I bought a broadcast camera back when I was media freelance. The camera is long gone, but the software remains.
