Help Promoting A Singer/Songwriter

How would you market a singer/songwriter, especially in the arena of custom wedding songs?

I thought of creating a facebook page and doing cross-promotion with wedding related businesses like flower shops, limousine services, wedding planners, etc...

    If the singer is good, you could do some covers of some popular songs to get recognition on youtube, and subscribers, once you have a good following, you could promote your services, and sing your original songs, etc..

    But also, if you are looking for local or state only, etc.. the idea you have is not so bad..

    I see he is already on soundclound which is a good base platform for marketing him. I would have home throw up some youtube videos and maybe market him out to affiliates of weddings such as the planners, flowers, cake makers so on. Might want to throw them a kick back for referring him to potential brides and grooms.

      Do you mean create an affiliate program, or just marketing to related businesses? I'm thinking an affiliate program could be a great idea.

    Have the artist make some cover songs and original content and start promoting her on digital download sites such as Reverbnation, CD Baby, TuneCore, iTunes, etc. (of course, always read the T&C first).

    Create and brand Facebook pages, G+, Twitter, Pinterest, etc, etc. Get her stuff out there as much as possible.

    Get her a real, branded website.

    Make a list of all local wedding planners and venues, within 50-100 miles (start small and concentrated locally for now until she gets more traction). Contact them, promote her. Audition her. See if you can get some of the venues to make her custom music (or performance) part of their packages.

    Hope that gives you some ideas.

    Your best bet is to get off the web and get networking in the real world. By all means, set up your soundcloud, reverberation accounts etc. If it's weddings you want to do, get on the wedding fayre circuit and sell yourself to the bride's to be and the wedding planners. When you're booked at weddings, talk to the guests, and the plethora of other wedding professionals; it could be the photographer, or the people that made the cake, to the people who provide the decorative seat covers! They are all in the wedding business, network, network, network! and don't forget to hand out cards. Word of mouth is key in the music business.
    You may also think about getting representation in the form of a booking agent. A booking agent will not do your promotion, but if you are good at what you do, they will find you regular gigs. But like I said, get yourself onto the wedding fayre circuit.

      Social media networking was my first idea, because the product is downloadable. But, I agree with you. And, I think most of her work has come through personal contacts.

    make a great music video. well done music videos can make a songwriter go very viral. for example, take mac miller. he never would have gone big if it wreen't for his music videos made in 2010

    I looked all over the Website and wasn't able to find pricing. Big mistake. You also have the site set up on Blogspot. I think you need a dedicated domain. Then there's the email address just sitting there. Install a "Contact" plugin for Pete's sake. That thing is inconvenient as well as being a Spam magnet. I listened to the sample tunes and they're good. However, it's hard to take someone seriously with such a homemade setup.

    The good news is it's not hard (or expensive) to make this site shine. Before going any further I think this gal would be wise to invest a few bucks in a proper site. And by all means, get a menu up there with pricing.

    Make facebook page, twitter account, create youtube channel, even start a blog. Use all possible social media.

    I occasionally do some songwriting.

    There is one Facebook group where I got a client. I think it is American Songwriters.

    The key I think is getting posts on other wedding related sites.

    It is a great cross-sell for a flower shop or something.

    I think they would link to that, but get your own domain rather than a WP site and focus on the brand concept a bit.
