Have You Heard Of "Presell, Presell, Sell"?

I've heard "Presell, Presell, Sell" - have you?

It's affiliate marketing, right?

You first presell with the prospect reading your article
on eZineArticles. That article then brings them to your
webpage on your own site. That page "presells" them
again with more good information and has a call to action
at the end suggesting a product or service you want to
sell them to make money.

The third step of course is "sell" which brings them to
the merchant's sales page.

This is known as "Presell, presell, sell".

How many of you are just going straight for the sale?

How 'bout this one: How many of you are doing
"Presell, sell" (without the first EZA article "presell")?

Here's why I ask...

After we've built our affiliate pages, it comes time to begin
promoting them. We often do this in the form of link
building (ie. pointing links to our website's pages to boost
search engine rankings).

However, if our traffic is going to our webpage BEFORE
going to our first presell article on EZA, then we're just doing the
"Presell, sell" process and cutting the first "presell" out of
the sales process. Are you with me so far?

So the question is...

Do you prefer your visitors to go to your EZA article first
or directly to your webpage first?

Because if you want them to go to your webpage first,
typically you'll want your webpage to rank higher than
your article in the SERPs, right? And that means building
more links to your webpage than your article (generally
speaking).

BUT...

If you want the "Presell, presell, sell" effect to take place,
that means you'll need your visitors to read your article on
EZA first. And that means you'll generally need more links
pointing to your article VS. your webpage in order for it
to rank higher than your webpage in the search engines.

So the question is should we (as affiliates) want to "Presell, sell"
or "Presell, presell, sell"?

Or in other words: Do we focus our linkbuilding efforts
towards our EZA articles or more towards our own
webpages?

Here's another way to put it: Do we want our webpages
to rank higher than our EZA articles or vise versa?

What are YOUR thoughts & feelings?

I think I would opt for the pre-sell, sell method. I would want to know what click through rate you were getting on the link in your bio box though. If there was a low click through rate on your article, I would definitely want the pre-sell page to show higher.

Say that 10% of the people reading your article clicked to go to your page. That means 90% aren't going there. And the other thing, aside from sales, is the opportunity to get opt-ins to your list at your pre-sell page. That's a pretty big deal so I would hate to interfere with the list building aspect by making them jump through too many hoops.

In all likelihood, someone is only going to visit your pre-sell page once, so it is a one shot deal to get them to the sales page. But if you can get them to opt-in to your list you can pitch to them several times a week for a year or more. A boatload of subscribers is better than a very few sales in my book anyway.

In the best case, you might get both your pre-sell page and your article on the first page of Google. That would be great, but think about this. Suppose your pre-sell page is #2 on the front page of Google and your article is #5 on the front page for the name of the product you are promoting.

What happened, in essence, is that your article bumped every competitor down one notch in the listings and one affiliate got bumped from the bottom of the first page to page two. That mean less competition on page one which is where all of the action is.

    Just my view.

This is a very complicated way of saying you have to build up links and sell the selling article or blog. I try to presell everything through blogs and lenses as well as through newsletters and so on. It works fine whereas sending someone straight to the web page may also work well.

There is no harm in doing it all.
