Stupid emails will get me to unsubscribe from you.

I got this really stupid email from a "marketer"

Hey Hotstuff,

I made it to my ranch. I just made you a cute little video
of me shaking my botty on the ATV and I have some great new
ideas as well.

I hid the video in one of the pictures below...

It then showed several pictures of her riding her ATV and one with her helmet off. I clicked on a link to her "pictures" and it took me to a squeeze page.

I immediatly unsubscribed...

Your thought?

I tend not to enjoy those types of emails much either. I think they were trying to be creative, but I think the email went too far.

When I create emails I strive to have something interesting to say, while still being professional at all times.

So, I don't blame you for unsubscribing at all.

If he provided some value in the email (before the link and offer), some tips,
would it have been a better approach ?

Quite a different method of advertising, and an EPIC FAIL as at that. You unsubscribed; you're only human

When I read the thread title, I thought there had to be a better description than "stupid." I was wrong. Stupid is the appropriate word for that.

I don't appreciate having my time wasted, and that email would most certainly seem like a waste of time.

I'm all for something different and creative, rather than the same old sales pitches over and over... but that email is just a dumb time waster, and definitely would call for an unsubscribe.

Yes, that was a very stupid email. I would have unsubscribed myself. An email needs to teach me something, inform me and hold my interest. The one you posted did none of those.

They were probably thinking the more clicks they can get on the link the better and no doubt a lot of people clicked but due to the disconnect when you land on a squeeze page that has nothing to do with what was promised you unsubscribed. I would too.

Yeah, you did right. If you had some sort of 'fun' relationship with this 'marketer' it might be different. A little levity is good at times, personal interest stuff, etc. But it sounds like FAIL to me - no real value was being shared at all.
