Do general IM strategies work well for eBay store owners?

My wife and I have a small ebay store that we've had for about 2 years. I had initially hoped the store would generate enough income to provide for my family but due to the unpredictable nature of sales I lost hope in that dream. However after discovering this site, I'm hoping I can learn some techniques that may revitalize my store and get the sales rolling again.

I've noticed most of our customers are generally new buyers/shoppers to our store. I don't know the exact count but our customers number well over 600-700. I need to find out far back my records go, but I'm thinking of assembling their emails and marketing to these prior customers.

I would be extremely grateful for any advice or strategies you can recommend for increased eBay sales. I have good products but I just lack the knowledge on how to consistently sell them.

There is a mountain of information within this forum to get you started. I'd suggest looking at the ecommerce section first and posting there as at least you'll be in a category of people in similar business streams.
From my understanding eBay itself also has tremendous guides and resources for promoting your store - if you haven't thoroughly exhausted that avenue I'd go back to the basics with their tutorials. They keep their content well updated and have a vested interest in your store generating sales.

Generally ebay marketing and traditional internet marketing are different beasts. You will need to read up on marketing to your clients via list building tactics to start.
