Is a .exe file from fiverr okay to open?

Hey everyone!
Here's the short version: a fiverr gig (book cover) is getting acrimonious (that's the long version). I had ordered the psd with the gig and the seller is saying the file is too large to send via normal fiverr channels and I need to download it from www sendspace.com. I didn't think anything of it and saved the file, but when I looked at it, it's not a .psd but a .exe file. I deleted it right away even though it passed the virus scan.

Has anyone ordered a 48 meg .psd file from fiverr before? Did you get it from fiverr, or is it normal to have to download it from a file sharing site? Is it normal to be a .exe? Shouldn't it be a .psd? The interior of the book is ready to go so I would really like to have the cover.

The bad part is this seller has done at least a dozen gigs for me in the past year and I don't know what went wrong with this gig unless he's subbing the work to someone else or gave the fiverr account to someone else. It sure doesn't seem to be the same guy.

Thanks for your help.

This sounds highly dodgy to me. Surely the seller can send the file as a zip file rather than .exe.

it's not only that it's not safe, but also why he is sending you file in exe format and not in psd or lets say jpg

ok - thanks for the replies.

He's already sent the file in .jpg (30.8 meg), but he's screwed up so many times that I figured I'll just try to fix the PSD myself. Plus I paid an extra $10 for the .psd.

I haven't contacted fiverr CS about this yet simply because the guy was such an ok guy before this gig. I responded this morning that I wouldn't open the .exe file and wanted the .psd delivered via normal fiverr channels so I'll see what happens. Thanks again.

Sendspace have option to download with their downloader its exe software that you run then it download the file but it have many adware and toollbars and stuff

look for option on their site "usually in very small font" for direct download

or you can ask him to upload to different hoster

You can try Google Drive or Dropbox ,they both allow secure delivery of data.

If you are getting .exe may it be not by him ,some times malicious codes changes files to .exe.

If you trust that guy and he is working for you for long time ,it is sure he will not try to cheat you .

Some people send .exe as a self-extracting rar archive. However, it's still not cool to do so.

Keep asking for the PSD file. This is the safest way out there.

You can always scan your file first. Or ask the vendor what's going on.

Thanks again. I've been back and forth with the seller at least 15 times with very explicit plain English instructions. As I mentioned, I really don't think it's the same guy even though it's the same seller. He still hasn't answered the email from this morning, but I'm taking into consideration the different time zones. If he doesn't answer by tomorrow I'll have to contact CS to get my money back. I'm not opening that file.

The disappointing part is that he designed my logo, header, FB banner, and an ad, so I was hoping to get the cover to match. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen tho. Oh well.
