Default developing a small freeware app

hi. i'm new to wf, nice to be here.
i hope someone out there can give me a few suggestions.

i'm interested in having developed a small software app to use as a marketing devise for an affiliate product, at getafreelancer or scriptlance.
the problem is, i don't know enough about software development to create the project post so that i will get the results that i want.

can anyone give me some ideas or suggestions?

Hi!

The most important thing you need to cover in your project post is two things:

1. what exactly do you want the software to do? what features will the user use? why the feature is important?

2. tell the programmer a "user story" - describe them in details how the average user will use the script

You don't need to tell your programmers how to program the script. That's their job to figure out how the software will come to life. You just need to describe in much detail what the software will do and how the user will use the software.

The easiest thing for you to do is to imagine yourself explaining the software to your customer. Just write as if your telling your prospect / user what the software can do for them. The programmers can than see clearly what you want.

Then after you post your project on elance or rentacoder, watch the bids come in. Select the programmer you think will do the best job at the best price. Another advice - don't pick the one who bids the lowest. Don't go for the cheapest solution, go for the most quality solution keeping in mind quailty doesn't always equals cost.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask it here.

Take care,

~Davor.
