I'm on godaddy, so give them my login details for that? I have other websites on my account though.

Let them give you the login so you can transfer the files to their space or simply download your files, export your data and send to them. When they are through with setting it up on their space, you can then proceed with moving the domain name to them. this will avoid downtime

Transfer the domain name and move the site from one hosting account to another and get a new SSL if applicable.

In the one case where I bought a site both they and I were on Rackspace which uses its own external DNS so we had to have them move that too.

Thanks guys. I've not sold anything yet, basically I want to sell a website domain name, its in the health niche. How would I transfer just the Domain name?

Transferring domain names is easy. I use Namecheap and just do a push there. For other registrars check their directions.

For websites I have a reseller account and give the buyer 30 days to move the site. They are given a password to the cpanel. Each domain I have has its own cpanel.

In your case since you have all your domains under one cpanel you would have to get someone you trust to move the site. You may want to pay the hosting company to do it.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if go daddy does it? I know I can sell websites with them. Would it be a good idea to put it up on flippa and then once soneone buys, sell through the godaddy selling thing? I'm an absolute noon to this. Ha ha. Thank you.

If they are buying the domain and the content, it is standard to...

... do a domain push (or transfer, if they want to pay to move it to a different registrar)
... package the content in a zip file, and hand that to them via email or dropbox (or something comparable)

Some sellers offer to install the site on the buyer's hosting if they are technically proficient enough, but I don't think that is usually expected to be included.

To move a whole site to a new server, I've used Backup Buddy.
Just back up the whole site, download the zip file.
Send that to the new owner along with login / password details.
They can follow easy instructions (plenty on YouTube) to put the site onto a new domain on a new hosting account.
    Worked OK for me.

    It's not that simple.

    - If it's a simple website (html files on an FTP), then all you have to do is copy the files off the FTP and give that to the new owner.
    - If it's a CMS (like Joomla/Drupal/Wordpress/etc), then you have to copy the files AND give them a copy of the mySQL databases. The good news with CMS, is that they have backup software available that can save both the files and databases to your computer. And then you give this to the new owner and have him restore these files to his web server.

If you are selling on Flippa or will be receiving payment via PayPal I suggest you take this extra step to protect yourself from fraud...

After you sell the site - zip up the contents and burn it to a CD. Mail this to the buyer and make sure to use tracking information so you can confirm delivery.

Do everything else as stated above (push the domain, etc).

But this extra step will turn your "digital" product into a "physical" product and will now be easy to prove delivery if the person decides to make a PayPal dispute against you.

Hope this helps and good luck.

    Cheers,
    Coby

P.S. I've had good luck selling websites and domains in the past on this very site! Just check out the "complete websites for sale" section of the Warrior Specials Offers part of the forum.
