Is Wordpress Pointless?

Hey Warriors,

I have always created my sites with either dreamweaver and I have also used joomla. I needed to knock up a quick website and I also wanted to see what wordpress was about so I thought I would give it a shot.

Having previously worked out how to use joomla, wordpress seems like a much more user friendly although less powerful CMS.

However the site I am doing doesn't really need comments, or to be dated. I have successfully removed some of the default settings in the code, but I feel as if I am trying to modify what is basically a blogging tool.

So my question is should you only use wordpress for blogs?

Regards, Phil

    Hi Phil,
To answer the question in your title: No. WordPress is not pointless unless it doesn't suit your needs.

To answer your question, no you shouldn't only use WordPress for blogs unless you want to. In fact, I've used WordPress to power mini sites and sales sites (straight down to order processing).

It all comes down to what you hope to accomplish with your site and how you want to do it.

I use wordpress because it is so simple and user friendly....Wordpress can be used as a CRM with Static pages.....but i like to use wordpress to get a site up and running and indexed. I then switch over at som point to a CRM site.

There a variety of themes and plugins out there which can successfully run wordpress as a website alone. If you install these plugins and themes the platform can easily be used for websites instead of just blogging.

The only problem I have with it is that it is not so great for squeeze pages and the like.

    Hi,

Ok I agree wordpress has many capabilities, my question now is there a wordpress theme that looks more like a website and less like a blog, so I can avoid having to modify it excessively.
