How would I monetize this idea.

Hi guys, so Im currently doing a Working holiday in Australia, one requirement to gain a second visa is that you do 88 days of rural work. I have done this and have a lot of knowledge and information that people would want.

My next idea is how to monetize the idea.

1) I was thinking to write an e-book and sell it on a website. But then I would have trouble getting people to my site as there will be no SEO bringing them here. How would I get traffic to my site?

2) Instead of creating an e-book, blog about my travels and how I did what. But then I dont know how i will monetize it? I already have a travel blog. (ad sense not so great)

What would you guys do?

I could suggest all the usual ideas, but let me throw something else your way.

Write an e-book. Create an affiliate program. Contact travel sites in this specific niche, or who at least cover it, and offer it to them. Give them a free copy (as long as the site is a big one; which is no guarantee that they're trustworthy, but the trust factor is higher) and tell them you're hoping to work with some of the most reputable sites in the industry.

What I would do is create a specific page for this. Include pictures and a video of yourself. Make it all very personable and friendly.

There are other ways, too, especially if you have startup capital for advertising, but I do like this idea. I can also vouch for it. I haven't used it for your niche, but I most certainly use it for other products.

Edit: You sometimes only need one whale affiliate to be making "bank", as they say.

Do you mean make a squeeze page, then other pages of the blog have information similar to whats in the book, but the content being no where near as good? I.e not giving anything away?

Also to add, do you guys think I should go ahead and write the book, or test the waters to see if there is a need for this problem to be solved? I.e make a website and see if people join my list?

The problem is if I go the way Vicky suggested, I would need to have a end product. If I made my own site and tired to see if people sign up to the list, I think I would have a big problem getting people to the site due to my lack of SEO skills.

If you are really a good writer, than people will buy your book. Just build a squeeze page about your book and let people opt in. Or you can also make a sales page where they can directly access your ebook after payment. You can upload your digital product to clickbank or any other platform where affiliates will already promote your product.

You can create your blog also beneath your sales page than post several times a week. The thing that you can do for seo, just submit and index your site to search engines, choose your keywords for your website and it will be enough for starting. Than the rest you can learn by time.

  • Heya Harvie316,

I think it'd be best at this point for you to Try and answer the questions below, in order to zone in on your exact target market and to determine if it'd be worth your time and other resources...

*** What exactly is the problem or need that can be solved by your first hand experience and knowledge in getting a second Australian visa? New job opportunities for professionals and skilled workers who want to go to Australia? From where? Thailand? Graduate study opportunities for students who want to go to Australia? From where? Thailand? Migration opportunities for people interested in taking their families to live and work and study in Australia? From where? Thailand? What else?

By zoning in on your exact target market, you'll know what they need, what could make them think and feel that the provider (read: you) of the knowledge and information that they want is a friendly expert in the niche, what could make them trust you enough to give away their emails and / or contact details, what could make them buy more knowledge and info, where they go on the Internet to look for or discuss related things, where on the Internet do they frequently spend their time in and so on...

*** At this point, you can: (i) Go to the online places where they go to look for or discuss related things and to the online places where they spend their time in; (ii) Develop written and video snippets of your experience and knowledge as posts in your blog; (iii) Create a more detailed mailing list subscription offer (a brief and direct ebook, for example); (iv) Develop a set of follow-up emails with supplemental benefits for your mailing list subscribers; and (v) Create your main offer (a more comprehensive ebook, for example), in order to: (i) Know how to create and present your relevant specialized knowledge and info as blog posts with videos, mailing list subscription offer, follow-up emails and main offer in ways that would be most effective in compelling your target market to do what you want them to do; and (ii) Know the online places where you should participate in and implement paid advertising campaigns on, so as to start: (i) Showing your target market that you can give them what they need so as to make them think and feel that you're a friendly expert in the niche; (ii) Gaining enough of their trust and enticing them to give away their emails to you for your mailing list subscription offer; and (iii) Gaining more of their trust and compelling them to exchange their money for the value that they think and feel they can get from your main offer...

    Hope this helps...

Go with your passion and think big.

For instance, for travel, maybe do a photo book or calendar and sell it on amazon.

Just think great, beautiful, awe inspiring content.

The way I see it... you can sit here and ask how why and when, when you could be writing the book. You are kinda putting the cart before the horse here. Regardless of HOW you sell the book, you need to HAVE the book done. From that point you can try and sell on your site to start... see what happens... then go with the affiliate program and see how that goes.

And how much is all of this going to cost you? lets see you have the site already, I'm assuming you have a list from said site... and the e-book is going to cost you $5 for a cover from fiver. Is there a cost associated with setting up an affiliate program? ( have never done it myself ) So you are into to it for a total of $5 and the time of writing the book!

So again... why are you here asking when really you should just be writing. Success does not come from thinking about it... Success comes from action!

A lot of info missing. What type of info is it and who is the target market? I realize you probably don't want to reveal that but it's really hard to brainstorm legitimate methods without knowing. Good luck.

Can you provide info in an ebook that's not easily found online?

If you can provide info that makes it easy to land jobs or insider tips on easy jobs that qualify as rural work or something that your target market will find irresistible, selling an ebook could be a good idea.

If I had to work 88 days at a rural job, I'd pay to find out the best places to get a job that's easy to do. You could provide all kinds of topics such as easy jobs, easy-to-get jobs, rural jobs close to the beach, jobs to avoid, best jobs for partying, etc. I'd be most interested in easy jobs as in minimal physical effort.

I know many people who did the 1 year in Australia gig and some worked horrendous jobs which they wished they never had to do.

Your sales copy would need to be killer because I think many people would think they could Google the info they seek.

If you offer the book for free, have a monetization plan in place with targeted affiliate offers promoted via email. If your target market are people about to go to Australia, there are quite a few good options (travel gear, travel arrangements, insurance, etc.). But if your info is for people already in Australia looking to extend their stay, off the top of my head I can't think of affiliate offers (doesn't mean there aren't any).

  • Write your ebook and publish on Kindle or any other ebook publishing site which already receives traffic. There's a built in audience for any type of ebook on these sites. Then get onto Facebook and Twitter and start interacting with your target niche (either via your own page/group or other groups with people who have interest in what your book is about). Then drive those people to your ebook sales page.
