Help motivating a client to do affiliate marketing in a unique niche

I have a client that I do training, maintenance and marketing videos for. They are a world wide company with dealers in almost every country. Their units are a paradigm shifting event in firefighting and cost $50,000 to $75,000 each. These units do a better job fighting fires with less personnel and water. In a time when Fire Departments are cutting back personnel world wide, the demand for these units will be higher.

Historically there has also been a heavy USA military sales history, but no body is working to capture other countries military sales or the marine industry in general.

Right now they want to pay only $500 or basically 1% for each unit I or anyone other than a dealer sells. I need to know how to convince my client to up the percentage rate and be able to sell over the internet worldwide while not irritating the dealers who are not traditional "brick and mortar" stores.

I also have another firefighting manufacturer client that is in a very similar position, but has much larger mainly military sales and applications. I have not talked to them about marketing yet.

Any help would be great and thank you!

Is that $500 for a sale or $500 for a referral that leads to a sale?

A sales commission model is very different than an affiliate model for the company managing the network.

And for an affiliate it is much different trying to actually sell something than drive traffic to an offer or sales rep.

What what are the details your idea?

How does that fit with the current sales and distribution models?

You need to show them that your ideas are not radically different to what they do now and would not be difficult to implement. Offer solutions to the new problems that arise. And it has to benefit them in a tangible way.

Are they having difficulty finding sales people because of poor commissions?

If you have a number of sources, maybe you could set yourself up as an internet distributor for firefighter gear with a bigger cut and then offer a portion of that to your own affiliate network to drive sales to you.

$500 for a referral that leads to a sale.

I was hoping for some type of a split with the dealer mainly because I will be doing basically all of the marketing and driving traffic to them. They really dont have much in the way of paper, audio or video dedicated to marketing, and really are not planning any. They work mainly at trade shows where they generate allot of sales and leads.

Right now the four of these guys are traveling all over the world to demo the units and make sales. It seems to me that while this is a hot revolutionary new firefighting unit, nobody is really marketing it right. These guys set up distributors in almost every country in less than a year and are basically lifetime pro's worldwide in the industry. To me they are too use to selling $250,000 units and want to spend too much energy and money shaking hands and doing demos on a $50,000 unit. The feeling I get is that they are not moving these units as fast as they should because of inferior marketing.

It is hard at times to talk to a client that is basically set in their old school marketing paradigm, and the lead guy can hardly figure out how to run a DVD in his five year old windows computer. You have to watch out for toes and old ingrown toenails

The second company is in basically the same position but with a leadership that understands the newer school marketing better. Their website is at least sales oriented.

The two companies view each other somewhat as competitors and are 50 miles away from each other. I think this is because they think they are going after a limited pot of money... worldwide :0 .

I dont see this problem as they are two different approaches, cost per unit and are targeting different types of fires and governmental clients. Let alone there are allot of countries, fire departments, airports, harbors, ships, ocean liners and military bases worldwide.
