EFFECTIVE list building techniques you wish you started with?

Hey Warriors,

My name is Napolean, I've been lurking for a few weeks now but this is my first post since joining the forum. I have to admit tough times brought me to internet marketing and I wanted a quick way to get rich. Like many I am ambitious by nature and DEFINITELY suffer from shiny object syndrome. Fortunately I found this forum before I bought into expensive products.

I'd like to thank you guys because I realize that this is a business and it is not something that will happen over night. For those who have been doing this for a while and even if you are just starting like myself, what are some business strategies you are using specifically with list building that you would recommend to a friend trying to get into the business as well?

I understand that to simple give away a business model is a lot to ask but any words of advice, things to avoid, books to read or even a kick in the you know what are helpful. I'm not sensitive so feel free to speak your mind.

I look forward to becoming a regular and hope to build strong relationships with my fellow warriors.

Tl;Dr : Whats up, I'm Napolean. Any list building tips for a newbie bro?

Internet Marketing can really no longer be called a 'niche' subject because it's become a pretty big market now.

Look at various products & you will see that many attempt to provide solutions to various problems within IM.

If you want to build you list & keep them, there are two things you need to do:

You have to get your website/blog visitors to opt in... To do that, you have to provide, relevant, in-depth & engaging content that will get them hooked. (These are the concepts that Google is focusing on nowadays; providing content that is relevant, in-depth, unique & engaging!)

Once hooked, you need to keep feeding them useful bit of content so that they don't unsubscribe. It doesn't mean bombarding them with a sales pitch once they're on your list! Hit them with useful info, then follow it up from time to time with a 'recommended product' & have your affiliate link (or product link) embedded.

Remember it's all about value value value!

Thanks for the replies guys. It seems good traffic and amazing content are the main goals. Would you guys say a blog is a must or can it be done as just a news letter?

If you want to build a high value newsletter, you have to DEMONSTRATE to your list members that they can trust you. You can do this through a blog but if that is too much of a commitment, you can use reverse opt-in mini-site 'info pages.' These focus on one question at a time but can be tricky to promote because they might seem 'spammy' or disjointed.

to start building your list, go with someone else's product that you know has good conversion rate. then, create your own.
some coaches on this forum offer the whole package where they build everything for you from auto responder to squeeze pages including your own blog for about $500.
but, you are getting a proven system that works and converts great...........it is in the internet amrketing niche

      Hi,

Get in to video marketing, as i do, true the videos you will engage people much much more, then true any other kind of online marketing, but don't forget that the most important is to provide real value. True the videos you can do anything you want, you can sell anything you want and on the same time build highly responsive list...

And remember there is no magic pills. You have to learn and most importantly take an action on what you have learned.

      Good luck my friend.

    Dear Napolean,

Great breakthrough you realized this is like a business this is a first step in the right direction.

Here are the List building tips:
    Quick approach:
    - search and buy 1-2 Warrior forums products on list building to have an introduction and be informed on the subject ( 20-40 dollars should be enough)
    - get a coach ( top known coach: Igor kheifets )

    The business model:

    - get a great optin page that convert
    - get a great optin page that convert
    - get a great optin page that convert

    Tips that work:

    - be clear on how much you want to invest on your business to start with ex: 250 dollars total for the next 4 months.
    - get the tools (learn which you need - tracking, autoresponder...)
    - choose a niche for list building
    - know what is your audience looking for
    - create an optin page
    - learn and search how to improve conversion rates for that optin page (measure and test)
    - get an offer that attract people from your niche
    - specialize in 1-2 traffic sources to drive your traffic to your optin page.

    Be persistant
    Success in your venture

Building your list around your traffic instead of the other way around. This increases conversions and sign up rates. I wish I knew this before starting my lists.
    This is spot on.

The common method spouted on WF and in the IM niche is to build a squeeze page, offer a freebie and drive cold traffic to it.

    What do you get?

A big list that is unresponsive and doesn't open, read, click or buy for the most case.

Sure you can try and build a relationship with them and gain their trust AFTER they've opted in but at that point it's usually too late because no one is opening your emails.

Then you can check out all the latest tricks to increase open and click rates by tweaking headlines and other 'methods' and still nothing will improve much because still no one cares about you or your emails.

    So what should you do...

Give your audience value up front and THEN ask to opt in for more.

A blog is ideal. Content funnels (see what Andre Chaperone does for a great example) work too.

When you show you know what you're talking about up front and give people what they want without asking for anything in return they will gladly opt into your list and anticipate your emails.

This means high open rates, click rates and sales. Less unsubscribes and spam complaints.

    Win. Win!

If I started using Craigslist to build leads years ago when it was easier to post ads I am convinced I would seen 5k subscribers in record time.

CL leads are very hungry its just a matter of getting your ads up without getting flagged or ghosted that seems to be the problem.

Youtube is probably my second choice (though in a way it would be my first). It takes longer to create good videos than it does to make a good ad so that's the only reason why i chose CL over Youtube for this example.

Not tricking, bribing or attracting freebie seekers, broke people etc.

Focus on your ideal customer...go for them

100 people that get it and have money to spend worth 100,000+ freebie seekers.

But if you traffic is all freebie seekers, etc...change that.

Well, just have to make sure that your freebie is top notch and can really help the subscribers that opted in to get your freebie in the first place.

Let's face it though Pre 2006 you could sell and to a shiek via email...It'a lot tougher these days. Everyone is doing it.

Spam. Mass customer acquistion is out. High quality focused is in.

    Hey Warriors, Igor Kheifets here.

I've seen my name mentioned here as the go-to guy plus Napolean did reach out, so I decided to hop in and share my thoughts on "how to get started"

Thing is that your[list building] business starts and ends with your sales funnel.

To those who are just getting started, a sales funnel is a mechanism that takes a cold visitor, turn him/her into a prospect and hopefully closes the sale into your product.

Most people try to skip this step and use affiliate products, but in truth - that's a huge mistake. Few reasons

    1. Affiliate products (for the most part) convert like crap. So you end spending all this money on traffic generation (whether solo ads, Facebook ads, PPV/CPV traffic) and get nothing to show for it.

2.You don't get to keep all the money. Even if it pays 100% commission, there's always a back end that you don't get paid off.

    3. You do not get to keep the BUYER. Not many folks know this, most newbies are clueless about this specific part of the process, but BUYERS are your greatest assets. They trust you, they commit to you financially and they are by FAR your best and most profitable clients.

Many people (especially bloggers and folks who spend a lot of time on forums) talk about the relationship in list building. Thing is... having a relationship with a freebie seeker can only last so long and gets you very little (if any) profit.

A relationship with the buyer, however, is a whole-nother ball game. I got clients who have been with me for more than 3 years now. They spent more than $10k+ with me over time. Some even more than that.

These are the people who are not only my dearest clients, who I will do A LOT OF EXTRA leg work for, but also - GREAT FRIENDS. Some of them even been to my home here in Israel and many - I've had the pleasure of shaking their hands at seminars and marketing get-togethers.

So, my advice is simple - start working on your sales funnel first, NOT TRAFFIC.

Do not make the fundamental mistake thinking that traffic is your missing piece... it's not. Traffic is fairly easy - just get a Facebook ad started, buy a solo ad or JV with a list owner in some way.

The TRUE wealth comes with your ability to CONVERT that traffic into cash flow and that is only done via one's sales funnel.

If you'd like to learn more about sales funnels, you can check out this free wso and this paid wso btw. I recommend both if you can afford $17 because the latter walks you through the mechanics of my highest converting sales funnel which you can simply swipe and get similar results (just like many of my students already have)

Thank you again for the patronage folks,
    Igor Kheifets

    Hi,

It doesn't matter how BIG your engine is - TRAFFIC.

It's how well designed and how oiled your whole machine is - YOUR BUSINESS or SALES FUNNEL.

Having a solid back end system in place will go a long way to helping you
see predictable and consistent results in your online business.

Look at your whole funnel, not just the traffic.
