Where Should I Start?

I have owned a domain names AnnuityMD.com for 10 years now. Several years ago I ranked 1 to 3 for every popular search term. Much of this traffic was coming from one of my blogs that was on blogger. In fact, every time I wrote, the post would be indexed right away and would rank 1-3 for the long tail key words I would use.

I stopped working it for quite a while and then when I cam back, blogger made me move the posts to my own website (annuities.annuitymd.com). As I wrote after that, it wasn't as effective. All the blog posts were moved and seemed to have been re-indexed but they didn't rank as effectively.

So since then I have opened several successful businesses and just let it ride. Obviously with many changes over the years, it has lost its rankings although it still gets over 20K visitors per year.

I would like to work on the site. I LOVE to write and create content and can create very compelling content that people would probably pick up, link to, etc. I am NOT sure if my blogger blog is the right place to do this. However, at some point years ago I created another WordPress blog on that site that didn't quite work too well. I would post different topics on that blog and it wasn't as sticky as my blogger blog.

So my question is, should I create a new blog, work on the existing blog, or a combination of either? How do I know what's the best way to do this? Also, Blogger used to rank well because of the whole Google thing but is that true today?

Also, if I love to create content, what is another way to get high rankings on long tail key words? I hate to say this but I do NOT want to go out and social media this thing to death. I want to create content.

With that said, what's possible and what would you do? It is a site with long tenure and tends to garner a lot of attention when I write. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!

BTW, I also am planning on giving the report away for FREE from now on and not charging $50 like I used to. I am sure that can be heavily leveraged. THANK YOU!!!!!

Google's rolled out a few updates relatively recently that have totally changed the SEO game. Your issue with the long tail keywords may be that you're using them way to many times in your articles and it actually counts against you negatively. I'd ask a question about this on the SEO section, since I'm no expert on this.

Also gone are the days when a blogger blog has the potential to be very successful, well, at least its definitely more difficult now. You need your own domain. A URL like thisismyblog.blogger.com or thisismyblog.wordpress.com are no longer good options. It comes off as unprofessional and people are less likely to stick around and read what you have to say. Unfortunately you gotta go out there and pay for a domain/hosting service.

I'd ditch the old blog. If you content has dates on it people are going to notice that there was a gigantic laps in time where you no longer took care of it and I don't think I need to explain why that might be a liability.

Don't create a blog that covers a wide variety of topics, you'll be all over the place and targeting to many audiences and in the end you'll attract none. Focus on one specific topic or theme with each blog and stick to it.

Stop looking at social media as a bad thing. Look at it as a powerful tool that's become available since you've been out of the blogging world. You don't need to cut your quality of content just because you use social media. Use social media to help drive people to your website, share links to articles on your site on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Social media is THE tool when it comes to connecting with your audience.

But, if you really don't like using social media I'm sure you don't have to. It'll just be a bit more difficult.
